I wonder if this was prompted by BA's decision to pull out of VNO.

In a nutshell, it is a government's funded route i.e. any losses will be compensated by the Lithuanian tax-payer. Should this 'venture' prove to be successful in the long term, they will apply the same modus-operandi to other routes such as Munich & Paris (it is all part of a wider project called Invest Lithuania).

Is this because of Blue Air KRK-TRN?
It’s no surprise that LOT can’t compete with their former best pal Blue Air. And KRK is much better than KTW.
The loads must have been terrible to can it so quickly and with their on time rating at the moment, a 738 which is doing such a long stretch away from base is better of attempting to keep the regular schedules.

As for KTW-TRN, the fact that it got pulled doesn't surprise me at all, only how quickly they decided to can it.

LO had a disastrous performance during S18. If it starts to look like something similar is in the offing this year I'll probably stick with A3 for anything in Greece (nicer airline, better earnings, much better on-time record)
