~$300 for PE to J on a 747-400 FRA-BOS, worth it? I have a suspicion flight is oversold in PE/Y, if it is, how do they decide who to op-up?

Theoretically they should go by fare class followed by status.

Doesn't look overbooked. Cheap upgrade probably due to low load factor.
LH 422 FRA 1:30p → BOS 3:25p

Hm okay, thanks. PE seems full (no longer able to select a seat and saw all but 1 seat selected a little while ago). Won't count on an op-up, just gotta decide if I should pull the trigger.

It's a decent offer, but I wouldn't really call it a no-brainer. $300 is not a negligible amount, and paying that much for a sub-8-hour daytime flight where you are likely to be lounging instead of sleeping anyway doesn't necessarily seem like very good value if you already have a Y+ seat.

I went for it hehe. Figured it was as good an opportunity as any to try out LH's product.

Spent past 2 hours reading thread, but still new to Lh stuff.

looking to book a DTW-FRA-BGO flight next year on UA with UA points, all LH metal in economy X.

I will get the option for the bid upgrade correct? But with 016-united I wont get the flat costs upgrade?

Didnt see any DTW-FRA data points so just curious on chances of X to J.

thanks!

You should get both options if they are on LH flight numbers, not a UA codeshare

To my knowledge it is the same between LH/OS (I have done these fixed upgrades in advance on LH and always given higher mileage. Also usually get award mileage for # of status miles instead of revenue based).

I have an upcoming flight with long-haul segment in E (LAX-FRA). I'm offered $400 fixed price for E ---> Biz, so considering taking it. If I upgrade will I get rebooked in P or a higher booking class (e.g. Z since that's what's shown if I booked a biz fare direct)? Worried if I take the upgrade I'll get a status mileage downgrade on such a long-haul from 1.5x in E to 1x in P.

Probably Z, if you are flying direct and there is no other segment causing a married booking code. You can always call up the service center to verify and do the booking over the phone instead to make sure you get the Z class.
