Musings -- LH and LX to and from Asia // A380 business class // connecting via FRA

Just completed a trip -- we would normally take LX from London to Asia but on this occasion came back via FRA on LH's A380.

-- meal service: much has been made about LH's "new style" however I think it is a bit of a faff and I feel sorry for the CC. Frankly speaking it did not enhance the meal or the service and I am sure that CC will eventually end up with backache as they try to stretch over to the window PAX to layout the table for the window seat. My vote is they keep it simple and go back to the LX approach and use trays for the basic plating up and then bring the mains from the galley

-- food: got to say that the complete meal on LX today was very flavoursome and this from someone who is not a fan of airline food. The starter on LH was also very flavoursome however the main was what I would expect (a bit "meh")

-- seats: still love LX, in particular the K seats. I have tried the throne but I remain convinced that the K seats are the ones to go for. Surprisingly, I was quite impressed with the LH seat and slept for about a good 7 to 8 hours. However I still prefer LX

-- SENhood: I have never been one that was particularly interested in being fawned over onboard (apart from when LX give you your first meal choice). However the LX crew were particularly on the ball on this trip about "welcoming me back" and they were very good to my OH and extended the same courtesies. On reflection, this is important to me as I have a a very understanding OH who puts up with my hectic work travel schedule and I suppose it recognises that SENhood requires sacrifice / whatever you call it from more than the cardholder

-- FRA vs ZRH: I continue to find FRA the most god awful place to transit and this from someone that kind of knows how to do it. Give me ZRH any day, indeed (and I have said this in the past) I find LHR and the new terminals much "easier" than FRA

-- A380: still love it, so quiet and an awe inspiring feat of engineering

-- lounges: LX should be totally and utterly ashamed on the SEN lounge at the A gates, it is an absolute disgrace and much much too small. They need to seriously raise their game on this, I know they are building a new one by the E gates in ZRH but that does not mean they will have addressed the size issue with the SEN lounge at the A gates. In a nutshell, sort it out boys and girls. I was historically a fan of the BA lounge concept and must say that the "new" SEN lounge concept is up there with that (in my humble opinion)

You likely did not fly coach otherwise you'd not praise the LX seats ... and you likely did not fly F as the we would have heard complaints about another lounge.

That is quite key. Given a choice, I quite like FRA for the security-free transit out of Europe but coming back, the airport is insane on all levels and inert to improvements. It feels like some Singaporean company running the port with management terminally disinterested in the customers.

Try the current lounge at E and you'll love the one at A ....

That was the part I found most interesting. The OneWorld allowing its Emeralds using the First Class lounges. But when you are not in HKG, SYD, or perhaps JFK or ORD the One World lounge offerings sucks.
I just got rebooked on LHR-ZRH from BA to LX and the SEN lounge at T2 blows the ancient BA F lounge out of the water.
Sure most of it is due to the factoid that I can never understand what Pommies actually eat but being bright and clean and having seats that do not look as if Victoria played on them when she was young also helps.

The lounges and the crews are the one thing that somewhat glue me to the LH group.

To be more precise. The showers at BA lounges are pretty bad compared to LH. Not sure which one is worse, BA or AF

Correct, we were in Business. I have been lucky enough to fly a lot on LX in all 3 classes on LX (except the "old" F on the A340s and Economy long haul).

From what I read about the Panorama lounge, I didn't even venture anywhere near it preferring a seat near the gate. Mind you, it does seem that they will raise their game with the new lounge at the E gates.

I spend quite a lot of time in T2 -- in truth, my preferred lounge is the Air Canada one in the satellite section of T2 however most of my flights are from the main part of T2 so I rarely get to use it (( I agree that the SEN lounge in T2 is nice but it gets rammed to the gills at peak times.

Perhaps part of my fondness for BA dates back to many years ago when I was travelling even more than I do now -- there was something very comforting about going into a BA lounge / getting on a BA plane on the trip home ........ it always gave me a sense of feeling "already home." I suspect that the Swiss feel the same about LX, the Germans the same about LH and so on

If I may ask: why did you pick LH over BA, LX or CX options this time?

Using up the mileage balance and gotta love the SEN "buy one, get the second half off" deal

Well it would be non-trivial to establish something inferior to the Panorama lounge.

I hope I did not insult any of your furniture in my above post !

And even to non-LX Senators.

Truly generous .... in comparison to their lounge access rules.

I agree weero, it is a very generous benefit of SENhood and one I have taken full advantage of it on a few occasions with combo LX and LH trips for my better half and myself.

Don't worry, you did not offend about the furniture
