Quite a fine piece of corporate doublespeak.
LX GVA division should get the credit for the naming convention. With the exception of Classic the other 2 are already in force.
Any remaining credit can go to BA and HBO fares
Light will be another source of frustration for pax. No easy way to book a luggage at a later stage.
These came out so wrong that they sound more like threats than info:
The 1000EUR intra-Europe ticket with no luggage. Yay...
Great... I'm sure there will be no problem to deliver on this promise.

The three new Economy Class fares, which will always be available,
ticket prices will depend on the route and the level of availability, and the differences between them will be even more pronounced as a result of the new fare options outlined.

Booked ARN-FRA-MAD two days ago for €146 return, which includes bagage. I doubt the new fares will be much cheaper than that. Though I would appreciate if Lufthansa could lower the prices on flights TO their hubs, e.g ARN-FRA. Please bring back the €99 return fares. Today you won't find a ticket for less than €300 which is absurd in my opinion.

The Economy light fares are bookable through any channels (not like the Flugzug BSL-ZRH, which is only available when booking directly through Swiss and "offline" travel agencies, but not the more known "big" players like Ebookers, at least not available through their online booking mask) as much as I'm aware.
Are you holding any *G status? In that case, you could book without worries, as any *G gives you a free piece of baggage even on the light fares.
Otherwise, maybe give the travel agency a call might be easiest. I do fear that those fares are indeed Geneva light fares.

Both me and my wife will be travelling, but she will not have status. If we are booked on the same reservation, does the *Gold baggage allowance extend to her, as well?
So, if we book RAK-GVA on Economy Light fare and only I am *Gold, will we together be able to check two bags?
Thank you!

No, the extra big will only be granted to the *G holder. In case you've two light bags, you might consider moving them into one bigger bag, or as a cheap solution, into one moving box (Karton box) - when I once had one single, ultra-heavy baggage I simply didn't weighted and thought I was still under 23kg, LX provided me with a Karton in ZRH (most probably not applicable for you, though, as it's not Ex-ZRH) so I could repack my stuff. Very much appreciated.

Our bags are not incredibly large, but will likely both be over the 8kg for hand baggage. This flight is just one part of a two-week journey.
I will probably purchase one Light fare for myself and a Flex fare for my wife. I wonder if I am able to do that on a single reservation...may need to call in to Swiss.

New European Economy Fares [HBO/light topics merged]
I suppose that we have all received this :
It might be a big fight with the hand luggages on board like on US domestic flight.
THey might give you a cap when you have paid full fare which help the other customer know that you have "priority" to store your hand luggages.
No comment on the fact that our status does not give us any advantage !!!!
Starting in summer 2015, Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa and SWISS are introducing a new price concept on European routes: the new Economy Class fares, Light, Classic and Flex, will be available in each booking class. So that you can familiarize yourself with the new features in good time, we're giving you the specific details even before the official announcement.
With the new fares, you can tailor your future trips to suit your individual needs: for example, if many inclusive services such as free seat reservations and free baggage allowance are important to you, then the Classic fare is the right choice for you. If you're only travelling with carry-on baggage and do not require ticket flexibility, you'll travel even more affordably with the Light fare. You can also make an advance seat reservation and book a piece of baggage for an added fee. The Flex fare offers you a high degree of flexibility, such as free rebooking.
You will retain all your familiar status privileges with the Classic and Flex fares. The new Light fare, however, does not include free seat reservation, additional free baggage allowance or free golf equipment allowance. Regardless of your selected fare, the usual amount of award, status and select miles will still be included in every booking class. With the Flex fare you get 50% more award miles as part of a promotion. Of course, status advantages, such as lounge access, will remain unchanged with each of these fares.
In addition to the three new Economy Class fare options, the comfortable and fully flexible Business Class will continue to be available.
You can book the new fares and start travelling with SWISS from 23 June. And starting 28 July you can also book the new fares with Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa for travel from 1 October 2015. Further important information about the new price concept is currently available in your status lounge.
Yours sincerely,

There seems to be a downgrade for SWISS passengers on Geneva Light fares.
Currently, the rule is:
'Miles & More members with Frequent Traveller status and Star Alliance Gold members who book the Geneva Economy Light fare are allowed to check in one bag weighing up to 23 kg free of charge'
With 'light' fares coming to LH, the new rules on Austrian, LH and SWISS are
'HON Circle members, Senators, Frequent Travellers and Star Alliance Gold members booking Classic or Flex fares retain their familiar privileges. The new Light fare, however, does not include advanced seat reservation, additional free baggage allowance or free golf equipment allowance'

This 'enhancement' is in line with what BA just did on their executive club...Hand baggage only fares were just stripped of FF benefits...which means 20€ for a basic coach seat selection on BA

Once the lounge access and priority boarding and check in on light fares will be history, no one will worry about the lack of checked luggage anymore.
This is how a problem can be fixed and cost and be cut at the same time.

What happens with tickets already booked for travel after Oct 1? I assume they still get all current benefits. Any communication on this?

I can see the business reason behind this - extra revenue (as I doubt costs will be lowered) - but it does reduce the reasons to book LH instead of ryanair or easyjet.
Personally, even where I could travel with hand-baggage, I really prefer to check in a bag and travel with just a small rucksack.

DL has been offering Basic Economy fares on domestic routes to compete with USA LCCs. They're totally unchangeable (which is rare in the USA market) and do not permit any seat selection or seat changes--you're assigned a seat at check in and that's it.

What else can they possibly invent to annoy us status pax? Well, >90% of my revenue is already spent on other carriers than LH Group anyway.
