Question Lufthansa-Germanwings 2015 pilot strikes

Well as of today, VC and Lufthansa have put the gloves back on so more strikes are "threatened" or "promised" in the coming weeks.
Really hoping it's not next week but guess I need to be proactive in crafting a Plan B for my back to back long haul flights.
Anyone have some insider info or perspective about the latest tussle?

Question Luftansa-Germanwings 2015 strikes

Hi all,
Considering a Germanwings Dubrovnik-LHR (via DUS) flight end of May (best option available): concerned about possible/probable strike activity. Appears that these strikes affect domestic (German) hubs more than international ones.
Wondering if anyone can offer any advice about likelihood of this segment striking, and if it does strike, what alternatives do passengers have from Dubrovnik?
Many thanks for your good wisdom!

Just make sure the ticket is issued by LH not 4U, then rebooking is easier!

Lol, for a second I though this thread was to collect all information about LH and 4U strikes and other actions. I can imagine it will be quite a list this year as well, as a lot of tension still exists and a lot of issues still haven't been resolved.

Anyway, usually LH staff announces strikes not so long ahead, only a few days before action kicks in. That's a bit of a disadvantage, given that your flight is in May. I must say that the unions in Germany got done what they intended: pax running away because of so many strikes. Good job! With less annoying pax the work pressure will sink as well, so one target will be achieved. [/sarcasm]

Anyway, if you're quite sure you want ot fly LH/4U to Dubrovnik, then please do so. There are also plenty alternative airlines. Just avoid AirFrance.

VC threatens new strikes

The Lufthansa pilots are threatening to go on strike again. Further work stoppage is "possible and probable" at any time, said the pilots union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) on Thursday, January 15.

Lufthansa had not only rejected the VC proposal for arbitration on all outstanding collective bargaining issues, it said, but had responded with further provocations. According to the VC, the announcement was part of a "reorganisation" at the core company Lufthansa German Airlines, with no further explanation.

Lufthansa stated that company management had made no new demands. The Executive Board had been saying for many years that Lufthansa German Airlines had to develop competitive structures again. The necessary changes in the cockpit had not been achieved so far.

At the heart of the conflict is the new low-cost concept "Wings", on which Lufthansa is not prepared to go into arbitration because it constitutes a commercial decision. The Group had offered VC two parallel arbitration proceedings instead. One is to deal with retirement and transitional benefits and the other with remuneration, the framework agreement, the rights of employee representatives and internal conditions for promotions and transfers for pilots at Lufthansa, LH Cargo and Germanwings.

By its own account, VC intends to "form a united front with its members" at staff meetings to be held next week.

I'm very happy with my bookings for 2015: Not a single LH flight, and LH group generally is missing apart from a few LX flights that there simply was not alternative.

I'm fairly sure TK is happy (and I'm happy too), just as well as BA and TK are.

For Shareholder,
So it looks as thought your flight "should" be safe to take off as of now as long as VC gives 24 hour notice?
Tomorrow night I take off-crossing fingers and holding thumbs-but I do wonder if the newly resurrected cabin crew labor dispute may actually temporarily work in our favor? Pilots may try to use this new issue to their advantage and wait a bit longer to see if the pressure from this problem brings Lufthansa management back to the bargaining table. Probably a pipe dream I know.

Maybe the whole of the company misunderstood its purpose: they're supposed to facilitate flights, not fights.

I have two more LH bookings, for April and May. Keeping fingers crossed. Furthermore I switched to OneWorld quite a bit, as I've been a bit dissatisfied with LH (and SK) for a while now, also due to the outrageous amount of strikes and strike threats. No status there yet, but it will come soon enough (company agreement with AY).

All suggestions welcome.

Just take the direct BA flight if you're that concerned, although I frankly find it quite paranoid to worry about strikes four months in advance.

I don't think anyone at LH has gotten a deal in the last few years and it doesn't look like they'll get one soon. Mostly because LH's plans and ideas are miles apart from the ideas of Vereinigung Cockpit and the other unions. It's actually amazing how German law facilitates and even encourages mutual distrust between employer and employees. I'm working for a company that has bought a German firm and we see the same there: loads of politics and games, but no solutions.

Do you mean that you *must* fly LH Group then? That wasn't clear from the initial post. Anyway, apart from 4U, LH and OU, also OS and SN fly there if you want to avoid LH. Besides, if LH goes on strike doesn't automatically mean that 4U will be affected: in the good old days flights carried out by regional carriers like EuroWings and AirDolomiti usually went on when LH mainline staff went on strike as well: those are different companies...

I'm not sure if you must fly to LHR (or if any of the London airports will do), but according to wiki there are plenty airlines that fly to DBV: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubrovnik_Airport

They actually wait until you book and organise their strike around your flight schedule
