Long term storage
I guess those A320 and A321's flown down to AMM over the past months will never return and will be replaced over time by the NEO orders. Heard even a rumour that most or all of the A333's might never return and could be replaced by A350's once situation gets better over the next years or so.

I doubt that... the A330 are relatively young (2010s) vs the LH/SN A330 (2003-06) and are needed in the LH Group. The A359/A330 combo uses the same type rating and is a very useful fleet mix to have. My guess they will be revived for OS when their B763 and B772 are at the end of their life cycles.

In general the A333 to be received from other LH group airlines would be a great solution. The only thing why this wouldn't work is due to range restrictions as the A333 would not have the range to be used to LAX and HKG for instance, all other routes should be ok from VIE although some would be maybe payload restrictions. On the other hand, since the fleet would anyway be reduced, West Coast traffic and any other destinations not in range of the A333 could be axed and traffic could be feeded via ZRH and FRA/MUC.

The B744 stored in ENS will be able to leave after an agreement with the authorities: https://www.aerotelegraph.com/boeing...ente-verlassen

A nugget from the report is that LH sold 5 of their 13 B744 to GE for parts. ^

Sad watching episodes of Mittendrin Flughafen Frankfurt as they show the re-activation of D-ABVS with voiceover like "... so it can fly again ..." but knowing that it's still got it's wings clipped and it'll probably only get to fly to a boneyard. 😢

I just dont see VIE as such great O/D for US west coast or HKG. Besides connecting in FRA/ZRH is usually very painless (unlike LHR...)

I'm not complaining too much about a future that will probably involve a lot more A333 and A359 but I'm going to miss the 744s.

Flew on them a lot in the last few years as they were used on the routes I frequented (FRA to DEN/SEA/YVR) and 86K felt like a second home. 😢
