LOT Polish 787 Dreamliner experience reports

WAW-ORD on the 787 LO 003

I just want to give a shout-out to Lot Polish Airlines and their new Dreamliner service. I flew business yesterday from Warsaw to Chicago on one of their new planes. Starting with the comfortable and well-stocked new business class lounge in WAW, everything was just right.

Excellent, attentive service. The crew were clearly so proud of their new plane, and with reason. The air is noticeably more "breathable" on the 787, the flight was quieter and smoother, and the lie-flat seats were large (much larger than, for example, United's BusinessFirst seats), and comfortable. I liked how you could really adjust the seats into a variety of sitting/sleeping positions.

The food was overall really good. Not huge portions, or over-the-top extras, but lots of variety, interesting little salads etc. The salmon was a little fishy, but no complaints otherwise.

The only think they have got to get rid of is the super-schmaltzy music loop that they play endlessly at the beginning and end of the flight. I love Chopin, but this was the worst kind of ear worm.

Otherwise, kudos to LOT (and Boeing) for a really comfortable and pleasant flight. It was definitely above what I'm used to on UA BusinessFirst, or LH Business.

Glad to hear. I've been waiting for LOT to get its 787 routes going for another, decent option to Eastern Europe. WAW is certainly a lot more pleasant to connect through than FRA.

And I'll take schmaltzy looped Chopin during boarding over having a beat up and old 763 on that route like I did back in Jan.

A have few photos from when I got on the plane, and a final photo when we landed in ORD (I should have photographed the food, menu, etc. but I was so tired I forgot).

Good to hear. Certainly better than the substandard TATL business class of UA or AC!

Cant wait, got ORD-WAW J coming up in about 5 weeks :)

"new"? I wonder what this is relative to :)

its quite busy, packed, dirty (not enough cleaners:traffic), and a bit barebones for electric plugs and food

Seemed pretty new to me! It wasn't crowded, there was a soothing planted "green wall" with water fountains, reasonable selection of food, drinks, etc., showers. Very comfortable leather chairs, couches. Comparable to a LH business class lounge in Europe and much better than a United First lounge in US (not saying much, I know). No bartender, yes, and not a ton of electrical outlets. What time of day are you usually there? I had a long wait, from about noon to 5 pm, so I thought I got a pretty good sense of the traffic.

There are two lounges, IIRC. One for Schengen, one is upstairs to the right past security, the other is downstairs on the way to the non-Schengen gates. The downstairs one has the green wall and nice ambiance, though I've never been in ther upstairs one as the only time I ever went there I was sent to the other lounge. Perhaps there is a significant difference between the two, but I cannot comment other than to say the downstairs one was nice, well stocked, and had decent wifi.

Any chance they'll have this bird on the Toronto route come September?

Flew YYZ-WAW in SP-LRB. Pictures are here while I get the trip report completed. SP-LRC must have been doing a round of flight tests today.

This is perhaps the difference

I've always and only visited the upstairs *G/Business lounge during regional shorthauls.

It is par to below-par for EU business class lounge. Though for longhaul flight it would seem inadequate. Maybe it's much different downstairs.^
