What's a good bid amount for an Austrian flight VIE-JFK upgrade and back
From economy to business class. The minimum is 400 euro each way...but to improve my chances what should I reasonably bid?

I just flew this route but will do so again next month. On this last trip, I didn't have an option to bid I think because I booked on LH website and not OS (same fare type). For the next trip I booked directly on OS and the bid option appeared.

I did upgrade this last trip but it was through the set amount offered at check-in, it was 550 euro set amount each leg.

I am trying to stay in the 400s max 500 for the bid...anyone have any advice?

Also, if my bid is not accepted, can I still upgrade paying the set amount instead?

I would bid a little bit more than minimum, all about occupancy. How much was fixed-price upgrade? Do you remember? Sometimes maybe less than bid.

just bid 10 euros more than the minimum. If they have a seat available they will sell it. At least this is my experience so far with Lufthansa.

Bid Upgrade should go into P by default. They open up P space for accepted bid upgrades iirc

Plusgrade upgrades usually take whatever BK is open in the new service class. Right now P is probably open on every flight.

A datapoint for VIE-BKK.
Premium Eco to Business offered for upgrade bidding starting at 400 Euro. Default set to 800 Euro.
At checkin it was offered for 519 Euro. At airport for 559 Euro.
Eco to Premium Eco was offered for 279 Euro at airport and there were some takers.

Yes went from Economy L to Business P



Btw for this VIE-JFK segment, an upgrade to PE was available for 199 Euro set price. The set price for business was 550.

Most of them sound like very poor offers. 400 euro from PE to J is not a good value.

Also i have managed to upgrade most of my LH flighrs from Eco to PE for no more than 200 euros with the bid offer.

Curious to know how busy the flight was?
