For VIE-GVA flight the upgrade price is never below 199€ unfortunately, and still the business class is pretty always almost full, but I think it's mostly because of the UN guys which are travelling a lot between GVA and VIE

But the question is, is it still possible to bid, or are you given a fixed price for the upgrades these days?

I've got two bids pending for a trip next month (VIE-IAD return). To be safe, I basically went around 400-450 EUR for each of them. Same-day or on-board upgrades are 699 EUR (or USD?) if I recall correctly.

VIE-PVG upgrade was from bid, so still possible to put in or adjust bids.

Both. You see all the options when you open your booking on aua.com..
And another upgrade (different price) is available during web-checkin.But no C-class miles and bags with that one.

I would expect it to be a lot cheaper then. Thanks for letting me know about the check in possibility. No guarantee it will actually happen, of course.

It would be good if the upgrade applied to the entire trip (outbound or inbound) rather than per sector. What could be useful is if the system were to allow the bid to increase to a prearranged sum.

I agree, and I don't like the per sector approach either. Because I don't live at a hub, I don't know if my bid on the TATL is compromised if I chose not to bid on the upgrade for my positioning flight. I would hate for that to be the case. But, honestly why would I want to pay to upgrade on a 1h45m ride on the Fokker or narrow body Airbus?

It's not. The one with the bidding is the cheapest ,so try that first and if not successful then go for the web check-in offer.Good luck

VIE-FRA EUR 130 declined / EUR 110 at OLC

VIE-FRA EUR 130,- offer - unable to upgrade 47 hours before departure
EUR 119,- at online check-in

= = =

I had a quiet strange experience.

1) I offered EUR 130,- for VIE-FRA

2) 72 hours before departure, I saw at my credit card, that the money was taken by plusgrade.

3) In "manage booking" I was not able to choose a seat and got a message that I am on business waiting list.

4) Next day the waiting list was gone and I just saw the economy booking.

5) 47 hours before departure I got the "unable to upgrade" message

6) At online check in an upgrade was offered for EUR 119,-

7) 80% of the 777 seats in business where still available

Bid for DUS-VIE for EUR75 rejected, which I expected. I'm glad in a way, because I don't reckon the upgrade to be really worth much more than EUR30. I reckon your EUR130 was quite high for VIE-FRA, don't really reckon it's worth that at all.

When is it possible to check online? Within 24 hours only? I suppose they will send me an email and I haven't received one yet.

Hi, EUR 130,- is high - but I get it paid :-)

Check in at AUA is now 47 hours before departure.

Excellent, that's a good way to do it! I'm going to head into town and trundle my way up to Grinzing, where I will hit a Heuriger tavern!

The Wiki seems to have disappeared (am using a tablet); I was going to update it.
