If red is for the entire leg then the difference might not be that pronounced.
Say a red upgrade ATH-VIE-PEK would be 500 to 600EUR, while a smart upgrade would probably be 100-150EUR for ATH-VIE + 300-400EUR for VIE-PEK, so in total around 400 to 550 EUR.

Is there any rhyme or reason on what to offer? Is the lowest possible amount something that Austrian is "prepared" to accept or is it a good idea to start higher? I've also seen it mentioned that they may counteroffer; how often does that happen? Also, has anyone worked out what to offer based upon the seatmap and availability?

So is "Pending" a nice way of saying "Rejected" or does it mean I'm still in the running? I know some have posted about "offer accepted" notifications closer in than 72 hours (I fly out this Friday night IAD-VIE), but do rejections come faster?

Is it possible to get Smart Upgrade if ticket is not on OS ticket stock? I don't see the option online when using my OS reference number, is it possible if I call in to Austrian? If, as I suspect, Smart Upgrade is only offered to those booked on OS ticket stock, does anyone know what the fixed upgrade price is for IAD-VIE?
