FTers on the (cancelled A380) LH455 20 Dec?

Amy other flyertalkers in the midst of seeing how poorly LH handled 300+ people after cancelling a 380 flight?

What happened?
I guess there were no alternatives and you were re-booked for today?

Savage25 Dec 21, 2012 6:43 am

No, but a couple of my friends were, and I saw their facebook updates. Looks like they got rebooked to Asia on CA via PEK.

Are people really flying to Asia via SFO?

I see that the A388 experienced heavy turbulence and had to be checked.... must have been quite some turbulence and probably an unpleasant experience for those on the flight.

And cancelling a flight in this period when almost all flights are quite full won't make the re-bookings any easier....

Looking at some LH F award threads in other FT fora, people apparently fly from the US to Asia via FRA to maximise their LH F experience. :D

Going to be OT now, but which FFP allows such routings?
Or do people use different Tickets for this?
Would love to fly via Asia to the US (West) myself....

See for example:

US to Asia via Europe
North America -> North Asia -> South Asia -> Africa -> Europe -> North Asia -> North America

Probably no longer possible and in any case no more LH F awards using US miles. :(

I saw some Twitter posts last night and even a Youtube video. People weren't happy, that's for sure. I'm supposed to be on 455 today. The incoming 454 already has a scheduled delay of about 5 hours out of FRA. Not sure what's up with that. Flightaware says it's due to weathe delays at SFO, but I checked other flights coming from Europe and they should be on time.

yup. what's up with 454? 6h delay! The weather's not great in SF but definitely no snow/thunder/rain!

Interesting reading on Twitter. At least four people tweeted about their experiences (en route to funeral in India, en route to wedding in Germany, etc.) and how they were treated. Some back-and-forth with LH PR team over Twitter. One person seems to have driven to LAX to catch next-day's LAX-FRA (leaves me wondering how come not booked onto a flight SFO-LAX).
