A 380/New Business Class/Seatplans loaded at lufthansa.com

Lufthansa has updated the seatmaps on their websites.

The graphics for the A380-800 now shows 8F/92C/420Y. So it seems that the New Business Class offers more space and they "loose" 6 seats in the Upper Deck.

Configuration now:
http://www.lufthansa.com/mediapool/p...dia_820269.pdf

Configuration after retrofit:
Upper Deck: http://www.lufthansa.com/mediapool/p...800%20Oberdeck

Main Deck:
http://www.lufthansa.com/mediapool/p...00%20Hauptdeck

Hope you enjoy. ;)

Very nice config ^

I like a lot the concept of keeping the whole upper deck for F and C passengers, which makes it exclusive premium area.

Interesting if you compare this to Singapore Airlines.

They have a config with only C on the upper deck:
http://www.singaporeair.com/pdf/seat...-upperdeck.pdf
86 seats on the upper deck, 20 of which are in the are LH uses for F.
SQ has 66 seats where LH has 92 seats.

Look at Qantas: http://www.qantas.com.au/infodetail/...2J32PY332Y.pdf. They have Business and Eco on the upper deck.
Just comparing the middle section: 7 x 6 (=42)seats on QF, 9 x 6 (=54) seats on LH

Korean http://www.koreanair.com/local/na/gd...f/au_of_10.jsp Only Business on the upper deck, 94 seats, 22 in the space LH uses for F. Korean has 72 seats where LH has 92.

China Southern http://mercury.csair.com/en/travel_g.../target11.html has business eco on the upper deck. For comparison: They have 70 seats total, of which 50 are in the second section (LH has 54) (staggered layout similar to LH, but wider seats, each seat has isle access)

Malaysia http://www.malaysiaairlines.com/cont...ce/A380_lo.pdf has 66 seats on the upper deck (eco in the last section). 48 seats are in the middle section (LH 54)

Air France http://www.airfrance.co.uk/GB/en/com...lan_cabine.htm has 80 seats in the front two sections, 54 in the second section (same as LH)

Emirates http://biztravelguru.com/blogs/busin...p-released.jpg (could not find the seatmap on their website) has 72 seats, 42 in the middle section (vs 54)

Ranking by space (did not look at the size of the galleys etc, so the actual number could be a bit different.
How much more space does a business seat use compared to LH:

39 % - Singapore (92 vs 66)
28 % - Qantas (54 vs 42)
28 % - Emirates (54 vs 42)
27 % - Korean (92 vs 72)
12 % - China Southern (54 vs 48)
12 % - Malaysia (54 vs 48)
00 % - Air France

Frankly i don't understand LH and their strategy. Why install a new product which from day one is already inferior to other airlines in terms of space?

BT did a nice comparison of the A380 configs out there this week:

I guess time will tell ...

A very interesting comparison. However, the seatmap above looks like that of Qantas. Emirates' seatmaps may be found here.

So does anyone know when these flying pachyderms will be retrofitted? And which routes will get them first?

oliver2002 Jul 20, 2012 11:55 pm

The first refit will be in February March 2013... with the new line check system implemented on the LH A380 they are not scheduled to come in for the classic C or D check anymore, so once all 10 are in service and back from the wing checks they will have time to start the refits...

Hmm.. so it takes LH 3-4 years to implement sth that is not even up to date with the offerings of a chinese airline that they always been laughing at ?

Oh LH.. quo vadis :D ?

No point rehashing the arguments we've made since LH launched the new C at the ITB earlier this year... the next years will be great: I can burn my points flying a newer product and requalify for SEN for low fares since all the millions of formerly loyal customers have left LH for better miles and better products :D

I have not been active here for quite a while but just flew on the A380 in C to FRA. I was very disappointed with the whole experience. The seats were not flat and quite uncomfortable to sleep in. The food was economy quality. I had purchased a "discounted" C tik in P class for $3000+.

I compare this to a similarly priced tik on DL in their businesselite/first product. The food was fantastic and the seat amazingly comfortable. Was ist los, Lufthansa? Deutsche Qualität? Nein!

So why do these new planes not have the new C config?

(If I missed another thread that explains all of this, please no flames. Just put in the link.)

Grüße aus Deutschland!

When the first 388 were delivered, the new business class product had not been created/certified yet. 388 which are currently delivered already were designated to get old business (seat orders etc.), so this couldn't be changed.

Grüße zurück aus kurzer Entfernung :)

Until this post I would have bet that only the LH management could have come up with such an excuse  .

"We forgot that we ordered the A380 five years ago and so we could not be bothered to certify the minimally altered business class chair...."

As far as I know at the point they ordered the A380's the new business class was not even thought about. However, I agree that this has been quite stupid :)

I wonder what made them think that they could get away with such a move  - and I am pretty sure the certification should have been very smooth and easy as the changes were incremental.
