we are in lowly biz class muc-iad(lh 414 on 9 april. ). got a schedule change notice from UA a day or two ago. the a330-300 seat map on lh now shows lay flat seats. they were not lay flats a week or so ago. i do not look at first class seats seatmaps.( there are only 2 rows).

The secret is to look at the seatmap for Economy. If the middle 4 seats in row 27 are missing you are in luck. It will be one of the A330s with the new Business seats.

There is a dedicate thread for the A330-300 with new Business.

Flew the new F a couple weeks ago, and I really loved the separate bed. No matter how flat a seat gets, it just never feels like a bed to me.

I experienced a major drawback, however. The seats are so far across from each other that annoying couples may feel the need to incessantly shout at each other across the aisle and keep their neighbors awake.

Is IAD such an important/profitable route for LH or why the special treatment?

Quite a competitive market for business and first class transatlantic. UA also was making an effort to put their first refurbished aircraft for C/F on this route.

Lots of US Government traffic to Europe and the MEA region, all allowed under the Fly America Act since LH revenue shares with UA:

Plus a massive traffic from the N. VA area to India and Europe.

Interesting. According to flightradar24 it doesn't look as if D-ABVW has flown anywhere since it was ferried back to FRA a few days ago.

YEs--looks like just Hamburg to FRA--but didn't think it would be in air if still in D-check.
Probably just a test run then...It's the first of anything I've seen--I'm not clear on the interworkings of D-check and upgrade--so I took this as positive--but maybe not--feel free to let me know!!
Thx!
According to Civil aviation website--it was in PEK for the service--so thought HAM was definate upgrade to having the bird in China!

"The last plane to be converted is B744 D-ABVW which is currently undergoing maintenance in PEK."

I'm on a FRE to DEN flight (old first usually now) in May--so hoping another 747-400 would get into rotation!

Two 744s went for D-Checks with AMECO in PEK this winter. Both should get the 74P config that was so far done in HAM.

When you try to watch the playback of this flight
DLH9922 seen @ 2013-03-02 14:54 UTC on route from HAM to FRA

a map of China near PEK mysteriously appears.
