LH or WK from CPT?
Hi all,
need to hop down to CPT quickly in two weeks time and have the option of flying WK direct to ZRH or LH via FRA. Thanks to my lovely employer this is as usual in Y-class.
Haven't been on WK recently, so was wondering what you guys recommend?
(would usually fly AF premium voyageur, but they don't fly on the day I need to travel )
Cheers,
pilatusguy

WK is a charter airline with charter like service and charter like seat config. I have flown with WK to RMF and HRG and it's bearable (but you have to pay for booze), however I wouldn't want to sit in a WK seat all the way to CPT. However LH Y is not really a prime alternative, but IMHO it's the lesser of two evils.

Agree, both options aren't great.
As your employer seems to pay for Premium Economy products, you might consider BA. They have two flights daily from LHR to CPT. Their Premium Economy product isn't the greatest, but beats WK/LH Economy every day.
Another option is TK, who operate to CPT with the A340, therefore no Premium Economy. But their Economy product in my view is clearly superior to LH/WK. Unfortunately, they make a stop in JNB, which increases the travel time.

If your employer will pay for Premium Economy, you may want to check out the business fares of EK- they can sometimes be in the same price range as WT+ with BA and transfer via DXB does not usually make for any longer of a trip to CPT vs. LHR. If you are starting from Switzerland you may want to also check out departing EK from MXP which uses the A380 (lots of seats in business usually means very very low prices).

TK and EK are far longer:
BA and LH have the same time (14-15h), WK is 11h. I would save myself the botheration of transiting and fly direct...

thanks for all your comments.
with an average of 2-3 long haul's every week in Y I try to minimize my time on planes... so BA/EK & TK are not really the best. looks like WK will most probably be the choice then.
does anyone know if I can get the usual LX emergency exit benefits on WK too?

I would advise caution with WK longhaul non-daily services in general. When those flights cancel due to mechanical or any other reason, chances are you will be stuck for a day or two. Of course an LH cancellation is no fun either in CPT, but I just feel the risk is bigger with WK. They used to have exactly one 332 and one 333...not sure if that has changed, but once in a while you hear horror stories of people not going anywhere for days on end.

They just got a retired LX 332, but sold the original one to Air Transat, so yes, only two longhaul aircraft in a tiny tiny fleet:
