They should ^

The time has come for LH to look for a decent replacement for their aging A340-300.

Can LH afford to wait till 2020 for the plane to enter service?

That is they key issue I guess. They will be standing in a long line of customers for the 787 that enters service way behind schedule and they will also stand in a not so long line of A350 customers but this one is not anywhere near completion.

Are the latest versions of the 777 really that behind compared to 787 and 350? Might also be an option...

I reckon the 777 is the best thing out there, don't see why some of the airlines won't switch some of their orders from the 787 which has been delayed so long it's not even funny any more. Especially if it's holding up new routes for them...

Why not, just in time for the roll-out of a flat-angled C seat

Because it is kind of unlikely that they will replace them in the let's say next 5-8 years? The only model available on short notice to replace would be the A333.

But only for cargo. I guess they can't get any more MD-11's.

I'd say those 777F are for Aero Logic (they have been using some for a while already).
