What! Down to the same level as LX F?! That's a disgrace.

The plane in the picture will be released to LH in April 2012 when the testing program is over and no refits are expected. I would guess they will get it in May/June for sure.
The 748i will be used in the high density markets to lift enormous amounts of C/Y pax. So think ORD, NYC, India. From what I saw its not a jaw dropping new aircraft, just a 747 with a very good update (777 interiors, lots of LED) The Y seat will be the one currently coming into the 744 this summer. And of course the new C.
So is there one to be received earlier?
I will edit my post accordingly once there is an update on the timing.

D-ABYE was the second 748i to be built, the sheik one was the first. Both are currently the test aircraft used to get type approval.
D-ABYA (in the OP pic) is the third 748i build and the second off the line for LH. Inbetween they (Boeing) have a few 748F in the production line.
ABYE will not be delivered to LH in spring, it will remain the test bed till approval, then go for a revamp, change of engines etc, before joining LH next (late) summer/fall.
In the meantime Boeing will build ABYC, YD and YF which come to LH in late spring / summer. The tailsign ABYB is retired due the 1974 crash in NBO.

You do all know that D-ABYA was the call sign of the first 747 delivered to LH in the early 70s? Love that little fact.

Love the 748i, looks great from every angle, unlike the A380.
Looking forward to getting onboard next year.

Does the 747-8 have a common type rating with the 747-400? If so will the LH pilots be switching between the 2 aircraft types?
Thanks

regardless all the hype of A380, I still find 747 be the best looking of them all.

Anyone knows whether there's a chance that this beauty will fly to HKG by next summer? I may take my family there in June 2012, and a 748 would be a good reason to fly LH.
