I assume that the 748i will replace one of the existing 2 daily flights from IAD, not supplement them, correct? If so, will it replace the 744 flight (seems logical) or the 333 flight (meaning double 747 service to IAD)? I could hope for the 333 since I am booked on it in June and I'd love to be one of the first to experience it

I think LH will operate to IAD the 748i and a retrofitted A333 with new F and new C.

They can not create a gap in product offerings on one single route.

Why not? They do that all the time with new/old F.

Nope, MUC-IAD will be with the new A330 which will have new F and C like the 748, the other rotations stay old F & C on A333&343. UA is downsizing their operations ex IAD to Germany in winter.

So do you have any insight which plane type the 748i will replace once it goes into rotation IAD/FRA? I tried to read into your message, but just didn't see an answer if it was there. Maybe because UA is downsizing, LH will upsize and run 2x747 to pick up the slack? That would also take the 333 out of rotation so that it can be retrofitted.

UA is downsizing in Winter ie sometime around Oct 16. By then LH may decide to deploy the 748i someplace else. For now I would assume 4-5 rotations a week as long as they only have one single 748i aircraft. New aircraft (especially this one) have quite a few teething issues, so don't be surprised if the schedule gets disrupted a few times... once the second and third 748i come in they will start BOM/DEL into the mix, I doubt it will be this summer.
