It depends on what airline/route you are flying and what airline you are collecting the miles on;
For example, there are "direct" flights that make a stop somewhere on the way. That will count as only one segment on many airlines.
It would be nice if you could some more details about your trip, then people can give you an exact answer.

ok I meant an indirect flight , do the stops in between count as a segment ?
lets say I want to fly from Brussels - Singapore.
I want to find the flight with the most stops, if they count as a segment.
I would fly with lufthansa.
It would be something like BRU-FRA-SIN. Does the stop in Frankfurt count as a segment ? or should I book BRU - FRA. and then book FRA-SIN. ?
thank you
why do I ask this ?
well miles and more has this program to get FTL status if you have 30 segments.
so basicly I am searching the longest route from BRU to SIN .

If for whatever reason you want to have more segments with LH, please note that most LH fares allow for usage of additional German domestic segments, so iso flying BRU-FRA-SIN you may fly BRU-DUS-FRA-SIN. The fare is the same, but the total ticket price will be higher, as you will also have to pay Fuel Surcharge (aka 'YQ tax') for an additional domestic segment. I flew once KLU-MUC-FRA-NYC when I was a couple of hundreds of miles short of an award trip to AU

thank you for your input !
quote from Ft'er :
My major haul was during the AA DEQM/BOS3X promo back on 2009. I was living in Germany at the time and needed to do a positioning flight from FRA. Figured out that it really wasn't all that much more expensive flying from FRA-DFW-LAS-LAX-BOS than FRA-DFW-BOS, thus knocking out my 1st LAX-BOS seg in the process.
In a nutshell here is what I did:
-Routing: FRA-DFW-LAS-LAX-BOS-LAX-BOS-LAX-BOS-LAX-BOS-LAX-ORD-FRA
-BIS Miles: 33,674
-DEQMs: 67,348
-Total miles earned: 109,124
-Transcon Segs: 8
-TATL Segs: 2
-Longest Uninterrupted stretch: FRA-DFW-LAS-LAX-BOS-LAX-BOS (14,531 miles, approx 42 hours, without leaving secure area, except to clear customs at DFW)
-Hours Spent On MR: 120
-Cost? <$2000, including 3 nights in a hotel in BOS and meals.
This is what i am searching for but in Europe

And because European airlines do not have the sort of multi-hub structure that US carriers do, their fare rules do not allow as many transfers. LH is the exception in that they usually allow one intra-German sector as well, but that's definitely on the generous side as far as European carriers go.

Your best bet would be to use Swiss to do flights to other European capitals via ZRH and/or GVA...
FRA - ZRH - LON and back for a total of 4 segments...
Swiss is the only one competitive under LH umbrealla in these terms...
