1. A3 joined the *A officially on June 30th

2. On July 2nd, I had a flight on A3 stock (full fare Y), the first segment (XXX-MUC) of which was operated by LH, the second leg (MUC-ATH) by A3.

3. Miles credited for the first leg XXX-MUC after a couple of days.

4. Took them more than 10 days to cedit the A3 segment, and I got only award miles for this...

5. Thinking about the famous LH IT daemon, I called in (+ 49-561-99 33 66) to ask about what is going on. I went ahead and explained the whole story about A3 joining *A, etc.
Answer: Sir, you are not supposed to receive status miles for this flight, as it is on A3, and status miles are awarded only on LH, OS, LX, LO, Adria, etc!!
Me: Excuse me, are you new with M&M?
Answer: No
Me: OK, in this case, I guess it will be painless to navigate my MM account to check out for yourself the banner just above my statement reading:

"On 13 May 2010, TAM Airlines of Brazil joined the Star Alliance group. And on 30 June 2010, Aegean Airlines of Greece will be the 28th member of the world's largest airline alliance. You can earn miles, which also count as status miles, with both airlines, and enjoy lots of other Star Alliance benefits, like optimal flight connections to almost any destination around the world"
Answer: ... Uh... Please, call this [...] number (again in Germany) to ask for a manual credit of your miles. Thank you for calling Lufthansa.

6. Called the manual credit number. A polite lady was puzzled about it and told me that it was A3's fault that has to figure a way to pay LH status miles... I said that I couldn't care less about whose fault this might be, I only care about getting status miles as advertised on the M&L page! She asked me to forward the boarding stub and a claim via fax. I asked about the value of doing so, since they can verify that I indeed took the flight (award miles were there, it was only status miles that were missing). She insisted. Defying reason, I sent them a fax with the info they requested...

7. The following day, I called the CS cc and within 24 hours they had credited the miles without asking crazy questions.

Six hours in MUC

Posting on behalf of acw4 who is currently on LH411 due to touch down JUL 23 at 7:30am. He's going to be in MUC for six hours and would like to meet up with anyone who is around. Please feel free to PM him. Didn't post this under the lounge meetings thread because not sure where he's going to be/status/etc (sorry for being such a noob). He leaves for ARN at 3pm.

Wow, am I his secretary? Or a really good friend?

What a pain but good to hear that they sorted things out in the end.

Air India will give up most of their flights through FRA with introduction of the winter schedule.
Now we no longer need to worry about AI*G Pax clogging the LH lounges in FRA !

http://www.aero.de/news-10812/Air-In...kfurt-auf.html

aero.de is however is also going downhill with the stuff they publish:

"Deutschland sei als Drehkreuz zu teuer, erklärte ein Sprecher des Büros in Frankfurt. Die Hauptkunden kämen aus Indien und den USA, in Frankfurt werde nur aufgetankt. Und die Flugzeuge könnten die gesamte Strecke auch ohne Zwischenstopp zurücklegen."

Lufthansa A388 near Frankfurt on Aug 6th 2010, engine shut down in flight

A Lufthansa Airbus A380-800, registration D-AIMB performing flight LH-711 from Tokyo Narita (Japan) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany), was enroute at FL380 just leaving Russia into Estonia when the crew needed to shut down engine #2 (inboard left hand, Trent 970).

With the very challenging question which asks "from what time can you check in online for your Lufthansa flight?" The English language version can be found here:

Save $14 by registering for ESTA by 7th September

If you are thinking of travelling to the land of the free you only have a few days to register for ESTA free of charge before they start charging $14 for the privilege of "promoting tourism".

Even if you registered for ESTA previously and your current registration hasn't expired it doesn't seem to matter if you register again. If you are a maximiser you could wait until 7th to apply but if you are like me and likely to forget you'd better do it now.

We may not like it but it's better than donating $14 for some dubious cause at least until we are forced to pay the fee in two years' time.

Here's the link for registration: https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/

And thanks to the FTer who tipped me off about this. You know who you are!

They ain't cashing my 14 dollars for the next two years

I had hoped that just looking at the data and actualizing them would do the trick but your hint of just signing up actually did the job.

Received the following email from LH UK.

As one of our valued UK customers I would like to take this opportunity to advise you personally that flying has now become even more attractive for you when you choose to travel with bmi. Since 1 August 2010 the award miles you earn on bmi flights will count as HON Circle miles as well as award and status miles on the entire bmi route network. You also receive the Executive Bonus on all award miles earned with bmi.

bmi, the second largest airline based at London Heathrow, flies to numerous destinations throughout UK, Europe, Central Asia, Africa and the Middle East, offering you great connections to all corners of the world. In addition, bmi also offers services between attractive destinations in the USA and the Caribbean and Manchester.

bmi has been a Miles & More partner since 1996 and a Star Alliance member since 2000.

You will find further information on earning miles with bmi here.

Best regards

I'd be delighted to fly to ORD non-stop from MAN once again. They also used to fly MAN-IAD as well.

As already pointed out in the BD forum bmi ceased flying from MAN to the US (ORD, LAS) and BGI in early 2009. This same text also appears on the M&M website.

Shame no one has told LH about these route closures.
