Rimowa [in Frankfurt, LH M&M Worldshop(s) and related topics merged]
 

Hi Everybody.

Today I transferred in Frankfurt from UK to Schengen. I wanted to buy one of the Rimowa's luggage there, but found out there is no shop on Schengen side. Quick research at Internet reveals 3 shops, which should have them. 2x Lufthansa WorldShop and Essentials. I'll be in Frankfurt next week again, transferring Schengen (usually bus to B) to CO flight to Houston. Can anybody help me to get over Frankfurt madness and recommend one of above shops to go to? I should have 2.5h there to transfer.

The Lufthansa Worldshops are outside security. Are you looking for hand luggage? Otherwise you would need to check you new suite case in at FRA. The World Shop in Terminal 1 B is pretty new and supposedly the larger one. It is on the depature level outside of security.

When you arrive at the B concourse just follow the signs to baggage claim. After leaving the secure area you should reach a large center hall where escalators go down to the baggage claim. Don't follow the escalators. Instead stay on the level and turn right 180° and walk towards security. The Lufthansa Shop should be on the right side.

I'd like to have Bolero Carry-on, so no problem with taking it on board. I've been stupid enough not to buy it last week in Dusseldorf, where the price was 289 EUR (40 EUR less then LH version). Anybody has an clue about Essentials shop (http://www.fraport.com/cms/products_...ping_fun.htm)?

Unless you are looking for the Rimowa LH editions, I would strongly suggest to buy somewhere else if you have a chance. I bought mine for much much less in a normal shop in the city, and my guess would be that US prices are even cheaper.

I have no time to go to city and US price looks astronomic high. 750USD for the same thing in online store. That looks like double more then in Germany.

Just an FYI: last month I was in FRA and each Worldshop had a different selection.

I haven't found a place outside of Germany where Rimowa is cheaper. So I'd rather stick to the German stores. The World Shop really just makes sense if you want the blue Bolero or don't have a chance to hit another Rimowa store in Germany.

The best deal on Rimowa is usually at the Hetzenegger store in Munich (either Stachus location or the other one) If you pay with cash or EC (ATM) card instead of credit card, they will give you another 10% discount off their original very competitive prices.

An insider tip to buy really discounted Rimova gear in FRA is the Airliner Shop about 4-5 min away from T1:

They have low prices, give an additional 25% off if you have a airline/airport/crew ID. You can claim the VAT back which is another 19%.

This way I bought a Salsa Deluxe 2 Wheel Cabin Trolley for (309€ -25% - 19%) 194.75€ (aprox 273$)

You can take the bus route 751 and 752 to 'Tor 23' which leave every 10 mins from the arrival level in T1 and then walk the last bit over the bridge.

If that is too complicated for you, there is a guy in FL who sell Rimova over eBay periodically.

@oliver: how did you receive the VAT back as german resident? I am not so sure if we should leave this piece of information here because Rimowa might jump in and make problems if they read this (they dont allow discounts in Germany)!?? Maybe we can remove this?

What I would suggest in case you want to shop at worldshop is at to use one of the 10% - vouchers, which have been handed out during online checkin.

I am quite sure there are several people here who can send such a voucher to you in case you dont have any.

I get a VAT refund because I have residency outside the EU. I assume the OP has too.

Rimova knows about the various outlets and doesn't shut anyone down. They are not Louis Vitton. The discount in FRA is offered to air crew only.

No its not the Ringeltaube. That one is only open to LH employees and rarely has good Rimova offers.

If you want cheap LH/Worldshop branded gear, you have to visit the Worldshop outlet in Herford. They usually get things when items in the catalogue are removed.

What about ebay? There are pretty good offers for Rimova on Ebay.

I bought mine in the Netherlands. The shop was offering all Rimowa metal bags at 20% discount, and I got the VAT back too. In the end, the largest metal four wheel rollabag cost me around 450 euros.

If you really want the LH Luggage, I might be able to hook you up with a 10% voucher.
If it's checked luggage, it might even make sense to order online (as mentioned above), since you might be able to get it delivered to the US cheaper than buying at LH.

I just verified at Koffer-Direkt.

The Bolero is €288.70 delivered to the US (if paid by CC). However, they don't have it in stock right now ("Delivery time on request").

Still, something to fall back to if you don't manage to get one in FRA.

I would expect for a customer oriented company to give the customer the choice of payment. I mean they do, but 10% difference. They must have a very bad CC service contract... :rolleyes: :mad:
