Hyatt, Regency --> LAX
Hi everyone,
I am flying out of LAX at 21:15 on Friday 11th July. I am staying at the Hyatt, Regency the night before and plan to see some sights in Los Angeles during the day. What I'm not sure of, is if I am better to keep my hire car and drive out to LAX Airport on Friday night, or go by public transport to the airport? If I drive, very aware that this is a very busy time of day and week, so how long would it take? If I go for public transport what is this like? Any advice welcome, Thanks Chris |
Hi Chris, at which Hyatt Regency will you be staying? If it's the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, definitely KEEP YOUR CAR. Public transportation in L.A. is sorely lacking in general and in that part of town (the Westside) in particular. Also unlike in most other major cities, we don't really use taxicabs here, so you'll definitely need to hang onto your car in order to get around.
I presume you're flying LAX-London on Friday the 11th? On a Friday afternoon traffic here is particularly bad, I would say leave for LAX no later than 17:00 (5 PM as us Yanks call it) for a 21:15 flight, allowing for traffic, filling up the rental car with fuel, shuttle bus to TBIT, etc. Have a wonderful time here in L.A., and enjoy the great weather! |
When at the Hyatt Regency, have the concierge print you a driving map showing a good, non-freeway route from Century City to the airport / rental car return area. Taking such a route (Overland to National to Sepulveda, maybe?) will allow you to bypass the freeways that will resemble car parks at that hour, as well as making it easy to refuel the gasoline (petrol) tank before returning the car.
