which airport for USC

flying SWA, right now flight is booked into LAX, but is BUR/ONT any better?

flying 9/11 :eek:and out on 9/14, which are Thurs/Sunday

thanks!

I'd say BUR is slightly closer; I also find BUR to be an easier airport to fly in and out of as far as transportation options, security, and logisitics. ONT is nice, but a bit far.

LAX is your best bet, especially if you can use the HOV lanes on the 105 and the 110. BUR would be OK, but not ONT.

Actually, LAX is slightly closer to USC by about 4 miles and about 4 minutes closer in terms of drive time, according to mapquest. And, it's just my opinion, but I think that LAX is better as far as transportation options, security, and logisitics.

Here's my $.02 :)

BUR's rental car lot is right next to the terminal. LAX involves off-airport locations with busses.

I've seen the TSA line for Terminal 1 LAX go outside and almost to T2 at times; BUR isn't quite as bad.

At BUR, one can walk across the street and take MetroLink/Amtrak and connect to Union Station. At LAX, it's a shuttle to the Green Line.

I'd guess the 10/405/110 combo from LAX might time out longer that the 5/110 combo from BUR.

Well, I don't rent cars at LAX. ;)

But, I will note that the long-term parking lot at BUR also involves busses. If you're departing from terminal 1 at LAX, I don't think the ride from the lot is much longer; if you're arriving at terminals 6, 7 or 8, I don' t think the ride to the lot is much longer.

So, I'll give the edge to BUR here.

I've seen ridiculous lines at BUR in which everyone has to wait. Almost always IME, the security line from the elite check-in at United at LAX is no more than a 5-10 minute wait. And, who reading FT doesn't have enough status to avoid regular check-in lanes? ;)

My response? The FlyAway. It's better than MetroLink/Amtrak and more convenient than the shuttle to the green line. Except for when jerk FlyAway drivers leave before you can purchase your ticket , I love that service!

Nah. I-5 is always a mess. And, you can rely on slow traffic on 110 through downtown almost as readily as you can rely on death and taxes. (When I sailed through there at over 40 mph on Saturday evening, I was floored!)

I shouldn't need a rental, because I'm going to be with a friend who goes to school there (going for the OSU/USC game). Right now, I've got the CMH-LAX flight booked, however I'm waiting on the return flight to CLE (using SWA reward ticket). Security shouldn't be too much of an issue, because as it looks now, I'll be on an early flight the next morning, which will be a Sunday.

I said I'm waiting on the return, depending on the timing, I may not be using a reward ticket, and may be using paid travel, so departing airport would still matter.

 You mean 105/110 combo from LAX, right?

Does your friend live on campus or nearby? If so, it's really pretty much a toss-up then as to which airport you use. LAX is slightly closer and your friend may (or may not) be more familiar with getting there than BUR. Traffic shouldn't be a problem for either airport (plus, you'll get to use the HOV lanes on the way to the aiport if you choose LAX). I'd suggest that you go with whichever option is cheaper/better for you.

As soon as I saw your dates, I figured you were coming out for the game. Been looking forward to this one for awhile. In my opinion, as an SC grad who ran alot of friends to the airport while I was there, I would say LAX. If you are not renting a car and just being dropped off by your friend, it will be ALOT easier for both of you. Worst case he can take side streets and still be quicker.

me too we had a soft schedule last year, since our non-big 11 game was with washington state, and they fell apart after we played them out there. we played texas in a home and home in 05 and 06, that was a fun series.

this one's got a bit of history attached to it...

i'll wait on the smack talk, for now
