The majors all have shuttle buses that prowl the terminals continuously. If you're with one of the smaller off brand rental agencies you may need to call once you arrive. Have you already reserved a car? Check the reservation information it will probably tell you what to do.

What hotel you choose would depend a lot on where you want to go. We stayed at the Universal City Hilton when my wife have a conference there. Good if you want to see Univrsal City, but not much else. I haven't stayed downtown except at the Millennium Biltmore. There are lots of things to do there, but some people would prefer to be close to tourist sights in Hollywood, or near the beach. You will have parking fees at all of these.

A regular bus to the rental car company??? Each rental car company at LAX has its own shuttle bus. Look for the sign for shuttle vans outside departures area. Biggest problem is that so many people in private vehicles park (I mean "just wait a minute for a friend") in various areas, the vans sometimes can't pull into the assigned spots and you need to keep ane ye out, and sometimes step out and wave them down.

My hotel choices are:
-Hilton Garden Inn Los Angeles/Hollywood
-Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City
-Hotel Angeleno
-Hilton Checkers
I guess the most important thing is easy access to Fontana to be with the girl I just want to make the right choice. Someone mentioned Hotel Angeleno. Is it a good choice?

What I meant was do I just wait for the shuttle or do I have to call the shuttle before hand to arrange for pick-up but it seems that my question is answered that I just wait

As I gathered, you are driving out to pick her up, drive back to and then drop her off and then head back to LAX? You are going to spend the whole time driving.
I'd pick a hotel close to the Ontario Airport like the Ayres Inn and then enjoy the Inland Empire, or go to the Mission Inn in Riverside.
The Angeleno is a nice hotel, but not convenient to Fontana.
The Hilton Garden Inn is okay for walking around Hollywood, but not convenient to Fontana.
The Hilton Universal City is great for CityWalk and USH, but not convenient to Fontana.
Hilton Checkers is the best of the Hiltons and great for exploring Downtown LA, but not convenient to Fontana.
Why aren't you flying into Ontario??

My scheduled arrival time at LAX should be about 1130 but due to notorius tailwinds on TPAC flights (which is a good thing! ), I should get there about 1030 or so, 30 minutes to get out of customs, another 30 mins to pick up the car so I should be on the road by 1130-12. Just to add, thanks for everyones input! It would be my first vacation to the west coast!

So this is the plan for those of you who don't follow. - I'm flying into LAX from HKG. My scheduled arrival time is 1110 but could be earlier due to strong tailwinds. After I get in, I head straight to Hertz via shuttle to pick up the rental car. Then head straight to Fontana to pick her up, then drive back to LA. She plans to stay with me in the hotel for 2 nights. So we plan to stay around the LA area for the duration of my stay. Then drive her back to Fontana on the 3rd night. I drive back to the hotel after dropping her off, get some rest then fly to HKG the following morning.

Way too much driving on day 1, LAX-Fontana and back starting at 1 in the afternoon at the earliest is crazy IMHO even if you just didn't get off an international flight from HKG. If the two of you are old enough for casinos (>21) keep heading East after you pick up your girl in Fontana and find something nice out in Palm Springs or Rancho Santa Mirage area. Even if you're not old enough for the casinos you can spend the couple of days out there chilling pool side, shopping, take the Palm Springs tram ride etc.

Well Hotel Angeleno is right next to a very busy freeway with no views of LAX but convenient to the westside, Santa Monica, beaches, etc. I think I would go with Hilton LA/Universal City personally. You can check out City Walk and ride the Metro into downtown LA for some sightseeing.
