Things to do in LAX - Feb

I will be passing through LAX in Feb and will be arriving late on a Friday (spending the night near LAX) and then heading out to Palm Desert for Saturday afternoon.

Just wondering if there are any "Must Dos" that I can do on Saturday AM? I was thinking of heading down to the Ocean and sightseeing, but was thinking that is pretty lame and wondering what the locals would recommend!

Thanks

Going to the ocean is never lame. S Cal beaches are great. ^

Or, if you have wheels, go over to Santa Monica and walk around the 3d St pedestrian area. Or go to some of the beach towns just South of the Airport, Manhattan Beach etc.

Or try the Original Pancake House. 1756 S Pacific Coast Hwy
Redondo Beach, CA 90277 (310) 543-9875. Not quite as great as Walker Brothers in Chicago, but pretty darn good! ^

Thanks for the ideas - just another question - what are the good comedy clubs in LA?

The Getty Museum in LA is one of the 10 best museums in the world (but hard to get into without advance planning). Getty Villa is also pretty nice, much smaller and on PCH by Malibu, and generally allows out of state visitors instant access (have your passport or non-California driver's license to get in without a reservation). The Disney Hall in downtown LA is one of the world's finest concert halls, and has tours during the day (but really better to see a performance there). Truly astonishing construction and design (e.g. all surfaces are curved, the organ looks like McDonalds french fries and has thousands of pipes -- one of the biggest organs in the world). LA is full of hundreds of surprising features, but they are well hidden and miles away.

You could always go to the Laugh Factory on Sunset.

Farmers Market ... yumm

All of the suggestions above are good, especially the Getty IMO. For something totally different, you could also head down to Palm Desert early in the am, but keep going another 35 miles to the Salton Sea. Why am I suggesting the Salton Sea? Just because it is a random thing that doesn't get a lot of mention and is kind of cool. I believe it is home to a few unique species and is the largest lake in California.

For visitors to L.A.; THE Farmers Market is an old landmark open air market and restaurant spot with a very fancy shopping center next door. It is a great place for a smack or a meal. Try the Gumbo Pot. Chicory Coffee and Beignets. Also great Cajun food. Next to CBS Studios.

Love the idea about the Salton Sea - will have to check things out there.
