LAX to Anaheim Stadium

Leaving LAX on a Friday afternoon are there any "shortcuts" to get to Anaheim stadium other than the obvious expressway routes? Anything to maybe bypass a little of the traffic?I've been to Dodger Stadium a few times but this is my first trip to Anaheim Stadium.

There are loads of routes both freeway and surface streets. The first thing to do is turn on AM 980 or if they have a Dodger game on turn on 1070. They each do traffic every 10 minutes and will tell you which freeways are clogged. I would normally take the 405 south with the carpool lane to the 22 east to the 57 north. If the 22 is bad, you can hop off and head north to Katella, turn right and take that all the way to the stadium.

The Century Freeway (105) is usually a good alternative to the 405. It starts at LAX and goes all the way to the 605, which you can take north for a couple miles and then ride I-5 all the way down to the stadium or go 605 south to the Riverside Freeway east (91) and rejoin I-5 south in Buena Park. This is somewhat less roundabout than going all the way down to 22.

There are a lot of "Disneyland buses" that run from LAX that will put you within taxi, or possibly hotel shuttle distance. Another non-automobile alternative is the Amtrak or Metrolink train; the Anaheim station is just north of the stadium. The trick is getting from LAX to a train station. Unfortunately, the Green Line doesn't connect to the Norwalk Metrolink station so you need to go up to Union Station downtown, an hour by Metrorail (two transfers) or an hour and a half by bus (direct).

especially if you have a second passenger, i would suck it up and do the 405 to the 22. the trick with friday afternoons is getting as close to your desitination as possible before everything stops up. in other words, in the absence of additional intel, i'd advise against driving due east just to catch a freeway that *may* be less congested than the 405.

the disneyland bus is also certainly worth a look; it's free (i think) and someone else does the driving.

Lots of good advice above; condensing what others have posted, this is how this LA resident would drive it:

Plan A. 405 South to 22 East. There is a carpool lane on the 405, none on the 22. Expect moderate to heavy traffic all the way down the 405. On the 22, the moment I saw traffic backed up, I would exit the 22, head north about a mile and then turn right on Katella Blvd and take it all the way into the stadium

Plan B. 105 East to 605 South. There is a carpool lane on the 105 and 605, but no carpool transition to the 605 from the 105. Expect moderate to heavy traffic on the 105 - the 105/605 merge is metered and gets quite heavy. Take 605 South to Cerritos Ave East and, at your leisure, make a right at some point to meet Kattella Blvd. which is the major street south of Cerritos Ave. (there is no Kattella Blvd. off-ramp from the 605 South).

Avoid the 91, 57 and the 5 at all costs.

KNX1070 AM Traffic every six min
KFWB AM Traffic "on the ones" :01, :11, :21, etc. unless there is a Dodger game.

Just keep in mind that whatever you do there will be traffic. If you are leaving LAX anytime after 4:30 plan on a LOT of traffic.

Thanks for the responses.I did check the Metrolink schedule but it didn't seem to work out for me.I am renting a car and I will have 1 pax with me.I'm always looking for a "better way" or "creative" routing.

I live near LAX and work in Anaheim

I have tried every route possible for the past 9 year that I have been making this commute. The radio is a great idea personally am 640 (talk radio) is what I listen too but....rarely do I every change my course.

Take 105 East to 110 South to 91 East to 5 South.

There are lots of other ways to go but I have found less traffic problems this way.

Fridays are not good any way after 3:00pm and the difference between 2:45 and 3:00 can make a huge diffence.

Thanks again for all the suggestions.I love the carpool lanes. I wish we had those around Chicago..I left the LAX Alamo lot at 6:44 pm on a Friday afternoon, went south and entered the 405.From there I took 22 to 5 and I turned into Anaheim stadium at 7:28.I was amazed at the lack of traffic around the stadium for all 3 games .
