Observation Deck at Theme Building, LAX
Hi,
Does anyone know if they re-opened this yet? It was closed for security reasons when I was last at LAX this past October. I have a 5 hour connection back to Dallas after returning from Australia this August. I spent hundreds of hours up there over the past 17 years and it would be great to spend some more. Thanks for reading |
I will give them a call and find out for you. I haven't been there since 911.

Last try for advice since I leave for Sydney on July 29. http://www.flyertalk.com/airports/ft...orum/smile.gif

Blancine, the Observation Deck is closed until further notice due to security concerns. I just checked this morning. I realize this information is too late for your trip. I'm sorry I didn't fly over to this FlyerTalk Airports forum during June or July. Hopefully, this will help someone else. I hope you had an enjoyable trip. http://www.flyertalk.com/airports/ft...orum/smile.gif
Encounter Restaurant, which is above the Observation Deck level, is open. I know this is a VERY old thread... but it is the first result on Google when you search "LAX observation deck". So consider this a public service announcement for non-Flyer Talk people who get here by Google search. Note to mods: you can move it or leave it here... but like I said... it is the first result hit on Google.
As of July 2010, the LAX observation deck is open again... on weekends only. So is Encounter, which is open 7 days. |

Here's a handy guide for everyone who is considering visiting the observation deck at LAX.
THE HOURS ----------- Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 5pm ONLY. HOW TO GET THERE ------------------- By car: Arrivals level, park in the T1 garage (two hours, about $9), preferably ground level and in the south-west most corner of the parking structure for easier foot travel. Also, one can park in the "C" parking lot (first two hours free), take the free shuttle T1 departures, and walk south to the theme building. Or one can park at the LA Metro Rail/Aviation Green Line station (free) and take the "G" bus shuttle to T1 Departures, and walk south to the theme building. ONCE THERE ------------ You will see three elevators set into the center cylindrical building column. Take the left-most elevator. The middle and right-most elevators only go to Encounters. PM me if you have any questions. :-) |
Thanks for the info. Heads up about the Green Line bus. Last time I was told that I needed to show proof of fare :-P He let it slide this time, but I was wondering if just showing a TAP card was sufficient.
