Hotel suggestions, please, near LGB

Enroute to OGG with an overnight stay necessary near LGB before transpacific flight the next morning. Having never flown out of LGB before I find myself in need of suggestions naming a hotel which is in a safe location, clean, and has an airport shuttle. Thx in advance.

The area around LGB is quite safe, if not particularly memorable. I know of at least a couple hotels in the area, and all are at least decent. A Google Maps search should bring them up.

Thanks so much, BeachRat. I appreciate your input very much. It's the "stranger in a strange land" situation for me and I'm pleased to learn from you the area is safe. Perfect!

A cursory search on kayak.com shows four adjacent properties to LGB that have free shuttles to the airport; of those, I'd rule out the Holiday Inn as it's right off the 405 and could have some noise issues. I'd probably look at either the Hampton Inn or Courtyard as they are next to a shopping mall with a Whole Foods and a few other places to eat.

Uh, isn't the Marriott fairly close by the terminal?

The Marriott is right near the entrance, but is significantly older than the other two mentioned and not as convenient to any restaurants.

Restaurants nearby wasn't asked for. Especially in the current era of delivery.

The Marriott is pretty much equidistant to the airport as compared to the Hampton and Courtyard, but across two major streets (Lakewood Bl and Spring St). All things being equal, I'd choose the Hampton or Courtyard with the added benefit of food availability. The Marriott is situated all by itself in an office park. That said, if you choose the Marriott and need food, Baja Sonora a block further east on Clark is quite good.
