Not just at LAX, it is a statewide problem:
“SuperShuttle’s operating permit is currently suspended because they are not in compliance with [California Public Utilities Commission] insurance requirements,” commission spokeswoman Terrie Prosper wrote in an email Thursday. “SuperShuttle is working on resolving the issue.” Prosper said the suspension affects a 280 SuperShuttle operations across the state but didn’t specify which ones.
In the meantime, Prime Time Shuttle tweeted out that they would be happy to take SuperShuttle customers to LAX and give them a a $5 discount.

Update:
SuperShuttle Says It Will End Service to LAX on Dec. 31

uperShuttle, the shared van ride that serves passengers heading to and from Southern California airports, will cease operations to Los Angeles International Airport on Dec. 31, according to a letter to one of its franchisees.

The letter, dated Dec. 10, says, “SuperShuttle plans to honor all reservations and walk-up requests for service through that date but has already stopped accepting reservations for service after Dec. 31, 2019.”

The article has been substantially updated and the headline changed since I posted the link earlier today.
SuperShuttle, the shared van service that has carried passengers to and from airports across the U.S. and in Latin America, Canada, Europe and Asia, is going out of business, according to a newspaper report Thursday.

Founded in 1983 to serve Los Angeles International Airport, SuperShuttle has lost ground to competitors such as Uber and Lyft. In recent weeks it has pulled out of airports serving many cities, including Phoenix, Baltimore and Minneapolis, the Times said.

And from the LA Times article:

But shared van services such as SuperShuttle have been hit hard since the advent of ride-hailing services. At LAX, shared van rides plunged by two-thirds in the first half of this year compared with the first half of 2016, the first full year that Uber and Lyft operated there, according to city data. Trips on LAX’s FlyAway buses also sank by two-thirds during that time; taxi trips fell 39%; and courtesy shuttles to car rental facilities, parking lots and hotels saw a 20% decline. The number of Uber and Lyft trips, meanwhile, more than doubled.

At southern California airports, Prime Time is the closest alternative. They generally also make less stops since their service is less popular, although I assume that will change now with SuperShuttle shutting down. I hope they don't start taking 4 or 5 parties in one vehicle like SuperShuttle used to do. Book at shuttle2lax.com which is cheaper than the Prime Time website.

For other airports, goairportshuttle.com will provide a referral to a local shared-van operator.
