I arrived by city bus at Century and Sepulveda, walked 2 minutes to LAXit, and caught a green bus as it was pulling out to T5. The ride was at least twice as fast as walking, mostly because there are no traffic lights on the lane used by LAXit buses.

We arrived at LAX the evening of 12/31, getting to the Terminal 2 LAXit green sign about 7:00 pm. I can report:
1) There was somebody there directing people, and recommending that people walk to LAXit rather than waiting up to 20 minutes for a shuttle. Due to mobility issues with one of our party, we elected to wait rather than walk. 2) Shuttle arrived in about 10-15 minutes. 3) The shuttles appear to be any old surplus shuttles that could be scrounged up and not particularly well suited for people with luggage. 4) The Terminal 1 & 2 shuttle goes all the way around the LAX "horseshoe" to get to the LAXit lot. With the terminal-side lanes reserved for shuttles, the trip around the airport wasn't nearly as long as it previously would have been, but still takes a while. 5) At the end of horseshoe, somebody is directing traffic to hold up other traffic to allow the shuttles to cross all the way across multiple lanes to jump over to the LAXit side of the airport. It wasn't extremely busy when we went through, but when it is, traffic will be messed up. 6) The shuttle follows a very convoluted route to cross from the T7 area to the T1 area and to get into the LAXit lot. This adds several minutes to the trip. 7) Once dropped off, there were lots of people and signage directing passengers to the proper pickup area (we were taking Uber). 8) At the time we arrived, the Uber line wasn't long to moved pretty quickly. The Uber PIN number system works pretty well - I got the number as we left the terminal. |

The green "trolley" bus used for LAXit are brand new and they have luggage hold in the middle of the bus so you board using the rear door if you have large suitcase, and board using front door if you have only carry on. They also have onboard WiFi so you can use that to call Uber if you are foreign visitor and don't want to incur data roaming charges. LAWA ordered 50 of these buses and only 33 have been delivered so far.
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...2bd32bfb27.jpg LAWA also contracted with 3rd party operators to provide temporary and overflow capacity. And these buses are generally retired city bus and they may not have the proper setup for airport shuttle. And of course these old buses don't have WiFi. As the new green trolley buses are delivered, these ancient city buses should go away. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...849186e3ef.jpg |

I was at LAX last Tuesday afternoon and Thursday evening. I didn't see any green bus. All the LAX-it buses were the white ones. Some with the new CA temporary license plates.

We arrived at LAX around 11:30 am or so. We took Lyft in a white bus that looked like any old shuttle bus. From terminal to our Lyft took about 10-12 minutes. I thought it was more efficient than the old way of having to fight through traffic to find our driver. Granted, the lot wasn't very crowded but there seemed to be a lot of people there directing us on where to go.

Just chiming in - the new PIN system works very well (looks like both Uber and Lyft have it). The difference between November and January was night and day

LAX is home base for me (and unfortunately they went and took my usual parking lot to do this) and the system for riders is unquestionably better than when I took rideshares (my split was 3 days parking 4 days away ride share when I was not getting reimbursed) but the drivers pretty much all hate it. The queues for them are ugly and there was mass hysteria the first few weeks for people getting in late when the attendants weren’t around. Now it seems fairly functional but drivers spent more time on clock before. On the flip side I generally walk to the lot and walk right up to a ride, is great for me. |
I've noticed the Lyft drivers line are considerably shorter than Uber. I usually Uber (get PIN while on the bus) but I decided to try Lyft a few days ago to take advantage of the Chase Freedom 5% rebate this quarter. To my surprise, I was matched with an actual Lyft driver rather than PIN.
Got to the lot and there was no Lyft car waiting in line (Uber lines had about 30 or so cars) and there was a crowd of about 15 people waiting for their Lyft car to show up. My driver was on Century Blvd so he showed up in about 2 minutes after I arrived. |

I did regular Lyft. I think I got matched with an actual driver because there was no Lyft cars waiting in line (the Lyft side of the lot was entirely empty of cars). If there were cars waiting, I think I would have got PIN instead. I think that's the explanation, at least it makes sense to me.

Also OT but I think both Sapphire and most Inks blow away the Freedom this quarter for Lyft... CSR is literally 10x right now and I have to admit I'm abusing that for all it's worth. Unless that's your only Chase card, I'd look to a different payment option. |

What day / time was it? At least originally they were stopping the PIN service at midnight PST but I think that changed after mass confusion.
Had to close out the Lyft app and start from scratch. At about 23:40 I was matched with a car, that actually was on the rideshare lot, but about a dozen cars back in the queue. Interestingly the cost of the ride ended up about 10% lower than the initial PIN rate. |
