Exclamation Runway 7L/25R Shutdown for Construction till mid-May

Runway shutdown at LAX through May, travel delays possible

“This is important work that needs to be completed to extend the long- term life of the runway,” said Keith Wilschetz, LAWA deputy director for operations and emergency management. “This runway closure phase was coordinated with our airline partners and the Federal Aviation Administration to occur after the peak holiday travel season and before the summer peak to mitigate operational impacts to the traveling public.”

Airport officials said that during the closure, passengers could experience flight delays “similar to those that occur during bad weather.” They also noted that the closure could result in occasional shifts in flight patterns, meaning residents near the airport might notice a change in aircraft noise levels.

According to the airport, the $49.9 million project will rebuild the center section of the runway and install new centerline LED lighting.
