If you want to see LA from the top of a high rise building, 71Above, a restaurant, bar & lounge on the 71st floor of the US Bank building, and Spire 73, the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown's open-air bar on the 73rd floor of the Korean Air Tower, fit the bill.
There is also Yamashiro Restaurant, in the hills above Hollywood, which has spectacular views.
The Getty Center also has great city and ocean views (it is open late on Saturdays).
However, the best views are from The Griffith Observatory and Mulholland Drive and Universal City Overlook. For day time views, there are numerous hiking/biking trails in the Hollywood Hills and Santa Monica Mountains overlooking spectacular scenery.
