with all the protests going on at LAX... what's the best way to pick up or drop off?
LAX terminals are so clustered together and there is only only road way...
With the occupy-airport protesters blocking all lanes in the upper and lower road ways, what's the best way to drop off or pick up friends at LAX? Do they really walk from outside to terminals? That would be a really long walk because LAX is so old and outdated that there isn't a people mover to take passengers to terminals. |
I would walk. LAX is a tiny airport compared to most other international airports in the world. I used to park at the Park & Fly next to Terminal 1 and walk to any terminal (usually I'd walk to T-4 or T-6) in less than 10 mins, at a leisurely pace.
If you don't want to pay Park & Fly rates (iirc they're the most expensive), I think Lot C isn't a ton further. There's a free cell-phone lot there as well, so you can be dropped off or pick someone up without having to pay. |
LAX was a mess long before any protests started. I needed to be dropped off at Terminal 7 a few weeks ago and it took 20-25 minutes for the driver to maneuver to a suitable drop-off spot after arriving on airport property.

As this isn't specific to AA, I'll move this over to the LA forum.

"Law enforcement & demo leaders negotiated plan: traffic on Upper & Lower Level roadways would alternate being fully open in 30-min intervals" Therefore, my recommendation would be to check Google maps to see which level is blocked when you need to pick up. Seems like the protesters have been blocking the Upper level more than the lower level, and the lower level has more lanes. -W |
Due to the compact terminals, you can walk from one end of LAX to the other in 10 minutes so I don't understand why people need to freak out about not being able to get dropped off at an exact terminal location.
But in any case, I highly recommend people get dropped off at the Cell Phone waiting lot during the ongoing protest and avoid the central terminal area altogether. It's a short walk from the Cell Phone waiting lot to the long term parking shuttle bus terminal, and there is always more than a few buses just waiting for you to take your to the terminals. |
So are there any other options for walking to LAX from the surrounding area? The only one I know of is walking along World Way from PCH towards T1 arrivals. I assume one could walk along Vicksburg as well?

You can walk to lower level from Century Blvd or Sepulveda Blvd.
You can walk to upper level from Vicksburg Ave. The shortest walk in theory, is to get dropped off at the 232 bus stop in front of LAX on south bound Sepulveda. There is a curb cutout for the bus stop and if there is no bus there, you can probably pull in and out quickly and let someone get off. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Se...4d-118.3964349 |
If you can get to the intersection of Century Boulevard and Sepulveda Boulevard on the lower level, use either Century westbound or Sepulveda southbound and get onto Sky Way. This is the single lane one way roadway at the south side of Park One. You can do a drop off or pick up here with very little hassle and then the driver can continue by turning right onto Vicksburg Avenue going north.
