Secret military operations to divert LAX planes for a week

LOS ANGELES (KABC) --
Mysterious maneuvers over the Pacific are forcing a change in Los Angeles International Airport landings late at night, meaning noise for thousands of people in the flight path.

Instead of landing from the east over Inglewood, planes begin flying from the west and over the ocean to keep noise levels down, but due to secret military operations, the airspace over the Pacific is closed to incoming flights for the next week.

Not so secret anymore...

I wonder if maybe it's a Vandenberg launch.

This may or may not be a part of these exercises:
Light from Navy test fire courses across the Southern California and Arizona sky

A naval test fire off the Southern California coast created a light that coursed across the sky shortly after dusk on Saturday, authorities said.

Navy Strategic Systems Programs conducted a Trident II (D5) missile test flight at sea from the Kentucky, an Ohio class submarine, in the Pacific Test Range off the coast of Southern California, according to a statement from the Pentagon.

Mystery light over ocean was missile test

A mysterious light that streaked across San Diegoís night sky Saturday, visible as far away as Nevada and Arizona, was a Trident missile test-fired by the Navy.

Navy Strategic Systems Programs conducted the scheduled Trident II (D5) missile test flight at sea from the Kentucky, an Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine, in the Pacific Test Range off the coast of Southern California, a Navy spokesman said.

Itís not clear if the test has anything to do with flight restrictions issued for Los Angeles International Airport for the coming week.

The FAA and the military did not disclose the nature of the activities taking place near the second-busiest U.S. airport.

But the FAA has indicated that military airspace over that patch of ocean was activated beginning on Friday night and continuing through Thursday night, airport officials said.

Apparently not.
Was the public warned in advance?

Apparently not. There was a notice about undisclosed military activity causing a flight path shift at Los Angeles International Airport, but it's unclear if it was related to the test.

Hey, we're gong to perform some undisclosed activity, and the airspace is closed. A missile is launched in that airspace. Military says they don't disclose the specifics of testing in advance.

Seems to me the public was "told", unless you were expecting date, time, model/type, long/lat.
