What to do with my mom

She is visiting me next month for a week, then up to SEA to visit my brother. Any suggestions on what to do? She is taking a non stop to LAX from LHR. I didn't even mention that SNA is 2 miles away as I know she would like to avoid a connection if all possible.

Anyway when she visited me in AZ it was easy. Botanical gardens, old town Scottsdale for art shopping, Biltmore, etc. Here I don't know what to do. Getty musuem? She's never been to southern California. I could take her to Balboa Island/Newport Beach other than that where I live is like one large office park.

I'll be on my aerobed that week in my loft. Mom gets my bed!

Does Mom know how much wear and tear that bed has seen?

I'd probably start by giving the maid the week off.

Probably much less than the OP would like us to believe.

I'd also suggest an overnight to San Diego given your proximity. People tend to want to see ocean when coming to Southern California from elsewhere.

Seriously, she might enjoy a dinner at Trabuco Oaks Steakhouse. Been there forever and something you won't find everywhere.

If she hasn't spent time on the west coast, a drive up PCH is pretty awesome. I love brunch out on the patio at The Biltmore Santa Barbara or (if you want to slum it) hanging with the surfers and bikers at Neptune's Net in Malibu. If she's a wine drinker, a trip to the Santa Ynez Valley is always nice.

I'd suggest browsing the LA forum here on Flyertalk:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/los-angeles-507/

And perhaps the California forum for additional ideas:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/california-450/

(there's also a San Francisco forum, if the mood strikes)

I'm sure your question has been asked--and answered--many times.

Get a map with homes of the stars. Do they still hawk those on street corners?

The Paramount studio tour in Hollywood is interesting. Walk along Venice beach. Hop on / hop off bus tour of Los Angeles. In-N-Out burgers. Griffith Park / hike to Hollywood sign.

My surefire Mom excursion is Huntingdon Gardens. Look at the art museum (with some famous pieces, e.g. "Blue Boy"), stroll through the gardens, have tea at the rose garden.

I did this a couple of times with my mother and several of my Southern California friends have done likewise.

Thanks for some really good suggestions. As cheesy as it sounds I know she would like to do the walk of stars, tour bus, etc. I've never done it either but sounds like a been there done it deal.

Good restaurant tips, thanks. I'd like to find a good British pub (like the one I met CE at!) here in OC.
