LAX warns of possible delays from runway project

Officials at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) say required runway work may mean sporadic delays for passengers flying through the airport. The work is scheduled to begin in March and will run through June 2018.

The airport says the work will cause "rolling runway closures" during the project. In a statement, LAX adds "passengers may begin experiencing impacts as soon as this summer, such as delays or a slight increase in wait times aboard aircraft."

Update:

Mandated Improvements to Begin on Final Runway At Lax; Three of Four Runways Now Completed

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) announced today that it has now completed mandatory improvements to its third runway, 6R/24L, which reopened to full length this morning. Improvements on the fourth and final runway, 7L/25R are scheduled to begin October 22.

The final RSA improvements on Runway 7L/25R will be phased in over a seven-month period, and will involve a shortening of Runway 7L/25R that will allow it to remain operational for approximately three months, while the runway’s east end and adjoining taxiways are reconstructed. In January 2017 after the busy holiday travel season, Runway 7L/25R is scheduled to be fully closed to complete the remaining RSA improvements on the west end of the runway along with other maintenance and rehabilitation work. The improvements are expected to be completed by June 2017.

Passengers may experience flight delays similar to those that occur during bad weather.
