Fastrak Violation

Friday evening, I used MY Fastrak transponder in my friends car. I did not realize until later that I should have registered his license plate before using my transponder in his car. It was on the new I-110 Fastrak lanes.

What happens now? Will I get a violation notice or will he just get a ticket?

The Fastrak did beep when passing under the Toll arms.

Go register the plate online now. It will take them at least a few days to do any checks.

If your Fastrak beeped, I would expect nothing to happen except your account will be billed as normal. If it didn't beep, then your friend would get billed the regular toll if it is a first violation, higher penalty if multiple violations. If you are concerned (and can remember when you passed the gate), you can call the number to ask, they will probably be fine with it and possibly add a note or register your friend's car to your device.

I routinely switch my transponder between our two cars and have never had an issue.

Thanks for your replies. I just checked my 'recent tolls' from The Toll Roads iphone app. The toll from that day posted normally, so I think it should be fine now. Right?

What do you guys think?

I'm not aware of any prohibition on using the transponder in multiple cars. I'm fairly certain they ask about license plate numbers so that, if the transponder doesn't work correctly, e.g. the battery is dying, they can match up the "no transponder" report with your license plate and not issue a ticket.

Excellent! Thanks for all the help. I will keep you all updated if the outcome isn't as favorable as I'm hoping.

I had a situation where I moved to CA from AZ and originally registered my cars with AZ plates.

I got a violation notice one time when the transponder didn't pick up and I had already changed the plates to CA and it was as easy as adding the plate to my account to avoid the fine altogether.

I would be surprised if you have an issue given the transponder beeped but if you do it is reversible after the fact if you add the plate and car to your account.
