SAN is the second biggest city in California, not SJC. That said, they aren't all jetway either. Not that I mind. I had to deplane a 757 at T7 by air stairs last week because of a broken jetway and I was happy to do it.

I stand corrected--thanks!

But they are around 1000 times better. It's not the financing, it is the local political system and the endless propaganda about how taxes are too high. Plus, there is a certain lack of involvement by local citizens in California.

I don't follow. How does complaining about high taxes make the libraries worse if they have the same financing?

As far as I could tell your post (#13 in this thread) complained, among other things, that DC suburbs had better libraries than California because, somehow, the federal government was providing them special funding and that was why L.A. libraries sucked.

This is incorrect. The 'burbs of DC in Maryland and Virginia pay for libraries out of local taxes, just as does L.A.

In any event, I apologize to the readers of this thread for getting into this Omni type discussion and respectfully suggest that we go back to: "Status and condition of LAX terminal facilities." @:-)

LAX DIRTY

Ok, so I check in at the TSA security checkpoint on the 2nd floor at LAX 7, the one connected right with the bridge to the parking garage.

As I take my shoes off, I'm shocked how downright dirty the whole area is. It's like the floor hasn't been cleaned for years, and back behind xray machine, etc, it all looks gross!

Terminal didn't look that bad, but as I boarded the plane and walked on the jetway, the jetway looked like it was from the 1970s, and there were fuzz balls in the vents, generally dirty condition, and even some words of graffiti written on the operator compartment of the jetway.

Is this typical LAX or just the United area?

I'm not a big fan of ORD but geez, when I connected there, at least ORD looked somewhat clean.

Anyone else notice this? I'm sure UA pays dearly for the rental of the gates at LAX and it amazes me how the definition of 'clean' seems to be subjective. Maybe LAX management needs to visit AMS, or even MCO, TPA, JAX, heck, even DTW....

Agreed

As far as I can tell, it's always been filthy. At least the RCC restrooms are back in service now.
