Santa Fe

My partner and I are spending a few days in Santa Fe (our first time here). We know it's not a town for nightlife, but is there ANY place to go where we can expect to see more than a couple of gay people? So far, other than the random sighting of a lesbian couple or two this seems to be a very straight town.

Traditionally there has been zero to one gay bar in SF. The scene (such as it is) is largely friend and home based. That said it is a gay friendly place.

My ex and I stayed at the Triangle Inn Santa Fe - ran by two lesbians and the place was busy. The little casitas (sp?) were very comfortable and fresh breakfast was brought every day. If you go, I'll do my duty and highly recommend it.

My partner is from Santa Fe, so we've been a number of times. Not much gay life there.

At the Paramount ( http://www.theparamountnightclub.com/ ), you can probably spy a queer or two, but that's about all I've seen.

I was there a year+half ago and there was a surpisingly chic and uber stylized club called Swag. It isn't necessarily gay, but the closest you'll find in Santa Fe. However, most clubs and people in town are very gay friendly and a good time is had by all. Try the Dragon Room too.

I think you're talking about Swig.

My partner and I stayed there when it was run by two gay men. It was alright, if not waaay out of town. The biggest problem was the room walls were super thin. I could hear the conversations (thank god no more than that) between the two guys that were in the room next to ours.

I wondered if it was still in operation.

I'll join everyone else in saying that Paramount and Swig are probably your best bets. Neither is officially gay but both clubs and their clientele are very gay-friendly. And for what it's worth, I've heard that Out magazine named Swig the hottest lounge in the country.

I stayed at Inn of the Turquois Bear and loved it! This was Feb 03. Very friendly, and gay managed and run, cocktail hour, great rooms. However, going back soon to try a new property and new adventures.
