KL transatlantic award on short notice

I am trying to fly a friend from Europe over to L.A. in 2nd half of May. Has anybody had any luck in getting Y seats on short notice? e.g. KL releasing some seats a few weeks before the flight dates?

After sending in an award request a couple of days ago, I got a phone call this morning from LP. A very friendly Ms. Evelyn informed me that she was able to confirm a coach seat:
14 May ZRH-AMS-LAX / 27 May LAX-AMS-ZRH. She even offered to send the tix directly to my friends address.

I am impressed twice: by

a. being able to get KL award seats at all, and
b. the courteous service offered by LP staff.

Thanks LP/GP!

This is great news and a reason for increased faith in the program. I had all but given up hope of ever getting an award from KLM.

In my experience the LP staff have been unrelentingly nice--just not very empowered to provide truly good customer service. I'm glad to see them being so accomodating.

Of course, my goal is still to try KL's transatlantic C-class. Anybody who has to share a positive story in this regard I would love to hear from.
