Planning for 2002?
 

Okay, all you other Latin Pass mileage fanatics. What is everyone else planning in the way of trips for 2002? We have not decided yet, but we may go back to Costa Rica for a vacation. Anyone?

I'm also going back to Costa Rica. Probably will transfer 100,000 to Hilton as well.

I have a couple of Business class transatlantics confirmed with US Air (using this years miles). Still could not get a KLM award even with seven months notice in economy!!!

I am hoping for a relocation to South America next year so I can really enjoy latin America.

My girlfriend and I are probably going down to Belize for a few days around this weekend I hope that we'll find an excuse to go to Latin America again in the new year.

This is my first time to check this thread in a few months - I'll have to do it more regularly! I had a great time doing the MM run and miss those days.

I am planning to go to Rio on Avianca in February (after Carnival). They have flights on selected days that stop in Sao Paulo and continue on to Rio. On the MM run I flew business class from LIM to BOG and it was great. Comfortable seats, great crew, and the first time I have ever had a FA show me the entree choices in a sizzling skillet so that I could choose my preference. I am taking a good book, kick back and enjoy it!!

This fall I traveled back to Peru with 3 other LP mm milers and my husband and I just returned from a wonderful trip to Hawaii where we enjoyed a 6 night stay at the Hilton Waikoloa, courtesy of LP. I've also reserved 4 first class tickets to Costa Rica in April. What a great promotion!

I'm just back from a quick trip to Belize and it was one of the most interesting trips I've been on yet. Since our time was limited we could not do both the ocean and mountain areas, so we decided to head for the mountains - more specifally San Ignacio, where we stayed for cheap for three nights.

On our first day we took a guided trip that took us hiking through the jungle, then swimming, wading and climbing through a cave that had a river flowing through it. (All using only headlights for a light source.) The goal was to see ancient ritual sacrifice areas left by the Mayans, including a few skeletons. An incredible day.

On our second day we took a minivan across the border to the centuries-old pyramids and temples at Tikal, and spent part of the morning and almost all of the afternoon there. While I would rate Machu Picchu a more interesting experience, these were in the same class.

Our last morning was spent canoeing up a river (with a guide) about a mile into a cave. More Mayan remains, although nothing like the first day. Yet a far more beautiful cave.

All in all a quite interesting trip. I'm not in the habit of writing trip reports, but this was a special (albeit short) trip. We want to return to some diving along the coast. In any case if you're looking for a neat destination next year in Central America, Belize sure fits the bill!
