Timing for Award Redemptions?

I have a question regarding redemption timing for award tickets.

1) If I booked two flights for next year, do the miles come out next year or do they come out at time of confirmation (this year)?

I ask because my wife will not be able to use any of her miles this year but we expect to use some next year. This being the case, can we book 200K worth of flights using this years allotment of miles (but fly next year) and then book 250K worth of flights after January. Effectively using 450K in one year?

When the tickets are pulled from your account then they count. If you pull 0 miles in 2001 you do not get 500,000 for 2002. I suggest you pull some tickets for next year in October or November for next year. Don't wait till December, they will forgetor as usual screw everything up and then your oing to have to use your 2002 allotment

My question, which I have asked LP, without a good response:

If I have used all my 250K miles for 2001, can I book reservations for, say, Jan 2002 now and have them against my 2002 allotment? If I have to wait until Jan 2002, no time to get the Jan tickets (or seats not available by then).
