Distancia & extending your expiration date

Its a crazy system to understand. I had moved some of my miles from LP to distancia a few yrs ago. it seems that the miles are good for 3 yrs and then expire. If you have a flight on Taca then it will extend the expiration by 1 year more.

On a recent flight GUA-FRS I spent a few $ more and flew on Taca, I thought Id credit the miles to Dis on the way there and put the return flight onto my AA acct, why waste it on Dis.

Well its a GOOD thing as I saw my GUA-FRS flight was credited but my Expiration date didnt change so I called up and was told In Order to extend the date by 1 year further , I had to fly a round-trip or 2 one-ways!!

So it turns out I would have messed everything up had I remembered to switch my return to AA.

Also you only get the actual # of miles no min so if the flight is 101 miles thats what you get, no 500 min. For me it doesnt matter much as all I wanted was to have another year before having to cash out the miles, with all the Taca flights Ive got coming up from GP, I wanted to save something for the following year.
