High Infant Fare on LAN

My wife and I recently booked travel to Chile using an AA award. We are planning to bring our 1 year old daughter with us as a lap passenger. I called LAN to get an infant ticket and I was quoted $600. That seems really high! In comparison, the infant fare on our recent trip to Tahiti was $115.

What is the $600 fare based on? Is it possible that I was misquoted or that it will come down? Any tips or suggestions?

Could be the Fuel Surcharge LAN charges. I am not sure if they apply this to Infant Fares, but that would add $180 dollars to the price at the current price of oil.

Price it on ITA or another fare engine and add an infant so you can see how the fare is calculated. Infant fares are often very high - because surcharges are not often waved.

Buy now at $558 or wait longer?

I'm now being quoted $558 for an infant lap ticket. Our trip is in November, so we have time. However, I'm concerned whether the ticket will go up even more as fuel keeps rising.

Had we known the infant fare would be this high we might have just used miles for our baby too.
