Cannot open seat map on J flight SCL-LAX
 

My partner and I are traveling LAX to SCL and back in December in J award flights I booked through AS. I've had the flights loaded in the LATAM app for months and was able to select our seats. For the return flight (SCL-LAX), I want to change our seats to a middle row to ensure aisle access for both of us in the 2-2-2 configuration. But now the seat map won't load on this flight. It's odd because the seat map loads on the LAX-SCL flight just fine and I can change my seat if I want to.

I called LA customer service and spoke to someone who gave me several different excuses for why I can't select seats on that flight, but I think they were making up reasons because they didn't know. They told me it was because I booked through AS, that seat selection isn't available for my fare, and that there is no more seat selection available for my flight. None of these reasons made sense, but the person had no solution to figure out the real answer. I then submitted a case online, and the person emailed back and forth with me using generic language saying there are no available seats and that "should you desire to acquire these seats, you have the option to make a direct purchase at the airport." This made no sense and I even showed her the seat map that comes up right now when you go to purchase a business class seat on this flight. There are numerous available seats. She just kept repeating the same thing in every email response. I got nowhere. It's kind of astounding how poorly trained and useless their agents are.

Does anyone have recommendation on what to do here? Or at least insight into why the seat map on this specific flight won't load?

Check from time to time, and check to see on the app vs the website. There's often no rhyme or reason with this airline I've been flying in one form or another for about 23 years.
