baggage limits on multiple flights and AA Platinum

I'll be flying on a LAN on one ticket from JFK-Lima-Cusco, then another day Cusco-Puno and then from Lima- JFK (NYC). I am told that all my luggage will be under the more liberal limits traveling from the USA. I just booked a separate ticket for a flight within Peru (Puno-Lima) and I am given stricter baggage limits of 2 bags TOTALING 50 lbs.

Question then- is my separate ticket considered to be part of my entire itinerary which gives us extra baggage limits or does each ticket (reservation #) have its own guidelines?

I am also AA Platinum/Oneworld Sapphire and I have been told that I am not able to get preferred seating or extra baggage limits either. The OneWorld /Lan seating policy clearly states that I get preferred seating..

Can someone help me here with the policies?

Being AA Plat is not enough. You have to have your AA FFP number in your reservation in order to qualify for any OW Sapphire benefits. (And then you might need to give it time for LAN to check with AA and realize you're OW Sapphire, unless you booked through aa.com. But how did you book these?)

Meanwhile, you have "been told" all this by whom???

Hi whenzuk

Yes, since it crosses IATA zones, the bag rules of the international carrier, most significant carrier, hold for the entire ticket.

No, since it is a separate ticket you need follow the bag rules of your Juliaca-Lima ticket not the international tix.

Of course, the fare rules of your tix need to allow seat pre-selection.

is there a way to combine tickets

IS there a way to combine my Juliaca-LIM ticket in with the other 4 flights?

So my Oneworld Sapphire does nothing for me for this flight?

bingocallerb22 Sep 24, 2015 10:08 am

Well, no way I know to combine tix.

Take a look at this

http://www.lan.com/en_us/sitio_perso...te-categories/

it says you do get an additional bag on any LAN flight. Also it shows no preferred seats for Sapphire.

if you follow this link- http://www.lan.com/en_us/sitio_perso...its/index.html

or https://www.oneworld.com/ffp/extra-baggage-allowance

Sapphire gets only 15 extra kg - 33 lbs- not even a suitcase -
LAN is the most restrictive to OneWorld.

If you look at that chart, yes. But it's confusing, because to the left of the oneworld equivalents it says:
For more information on these categories, go to the oneworld website.
And if you click that link, you get to a page which shows contrary information, saying that "Access to preferred or pre-reserved seating*" is avialable to Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. But that "*" footnote is:
(*) Preferred and pre-reserved seating offered in line with the individual policy of the oneworld member airline operating the flight.
Meanwhile, on the original page you linked, is claims that Preferred seats are "New". So is this a change in policy? I thought that back when they weren't called Preferred, that OW Sapphire could reserve exit rows?

Websites conflict

All info comflicts between LAN and Oneworld websites.

bingocallerb22 Sep 25, 2015 4:24 am

Why do they make something simple, complicated? oh yeah, airlines. The only place where 15 minutes late is considered "on time".

I can understand the oneworld site may be outdated if LAN has made recent changes. I provided a recent link. But still... I am officially confused. Haven't been Prem Silver for a while but do seem to recall you used to be able to get the Preferred seats.

So my best guess: bags, at JUL probably OK for extra suitcase.

Seats: your fare class needs to allow pre-selection of seats, If not, no problem, just check in at T-48 and likely good seats open then for you.

Only on international flights. On domestic LAN flights according to oneworld.com

" *For domestic routes operated by LAN Airlines, Sapphire cardholders may check in up to two bags with a combined weight not exceeding 23 kgs."

I was able to book restricted seats on the domestic Peru flights but Not on the
NYC- Lima flights. Nothing here is logical....
