Upgrades from LAX-LIM?

I'm trying to find the easiest (and cheapest) way to upgrade my existing reservation from LAX-LIM next month. I'm taking my dad for his first time leaving the country and want to make it as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

I'm not familiar with LAN or their policies, website, etc. Does anyone have suggestions or offers for miles for upgrades?

Please private message with any info. Appreciate any help!

Hi rpaskey! what carrier, ticket / fare class and route do you have?

Do you have LANpass kilometers and are LANpass elite?

If not - forget about upgrading.

Kilometer upgrades are only available to LANpass elite members. Upgrades from other frequent flyer programs than LANpass are not possible.

The one and only chance for a LANpass-nobody would be to pay the difference to a business class ticket.

My advice is to look out for LAN Premium cabin sales ex USA which pop up frequently and purchase a business class ticket ...

We are on LAN Peru, Departing LAX-LIM on November 22, Fare: OEESP99R
Return trip is LIM-LAX on November 30, Fare: QEESP99R

I called out of curiosity and to just pay for an upgrade for both of us, each way, was a total of $4,000. Not a chance!

Side note - 28 times over equator?! That's amazing, good work.

That isn't an upgrade, it is a reissue into a paid J seat.

So LAN doesn't provide a straight upgrade option from coach to business/first? I have plenty of united miles, wish they worked for LAN!

Within LANPass, there are upgrade options. Otherwise, there don't appear to be any, save a potential offer at check-in, which I haven't heard of in ages. These planes go out full up front most of the time. Most non-US carriers don't "give away" the front cabin.

LAN provides direct upgrades of ticketed trips only to LANPASS elites. As a non-Lanpass member your only guaranteed way to fly in the Business cabin is to purchase a Business Class fare.

In the future if you do this trip again you may find that LAN has frequent Business Class fare sales that are surprisingly affordable.

Change that to ALL the time. I asked the counter person at LAX a few days ago and she confirmed that there is never a spare seat. Many Chilean Commodores are on that flight using their upgrades.

They must have priority over the Peruvian Comodores :p

They grab ALL the upgrades on flight 600. No way to get a LIM-LAX upgrade on that flight because of 48 hour check in time difference. I discovered this for myself and ended up in back although I was first in line in LIM.

I was going to ask the same question as the OP but I guess that dashes my hopes. I'm on an H fare combined with some other flights within S America, booked as a one-way, so J was prohibitively expensive.

I guess that's going to be 8 hours in Y  - how is their Y product on this route? I wouldn't have OW status at the time of this flight.
