comodoro qualification changed (in peru)
 

i just noticed that on the peruvian LAN website the comodoro fast track qualification is now 8 medium haul business class segments PLUS 80.000km. however - premium silver is just 6 business class segments.

a while ago the fast track had been just 8 segments in business class :eek:

colombia and equador still seems to be 50.000km plus 4 segments in business class.

Yes, this horrible news was discussed on a previous thread. I'm OK for next year, but will have to do some serious traveling to get the 80,000 for 2014 status. Hopefullly though, it will diminish the number of Commodores which have sprung up like weeds lately in Peru.

Glad they changed it! Too many easy Comodoros from Peru. Chile was 150.000 kms or 6 medium haul J + 90.000 kms! Sumaq is always crowded and upg chances for a flight with stop over in LIM was nearly impossible. At least now it's a fair battle ;)

There may be some competition for upgrades NYC/LAX to SCL but not from – then LIM folks lose out.
And how would culling a few Comodoros from the SUMAQ be intelligent – why not cull the many more Premium Silver?

Take it with a grain of salt ppl. My whole point is that Comodoro stopped being "elite" quite a while ago. Remember that line from The Incredibles... "and then, after everyone is special... no one will be" :)

Two grains of salt taken. But we could have an interesting discussion about what we know, or think we know, about Comodoros. How many are there? From where? I think most are in Chile.

Is there evidence that Peru Comodoros grew like weeds? - other than obviously something was up because of the increased km requirement. From chats with a few other Peru Comodoros most only make Comodoro because of their international business trips. Some fly weekly domestically but this only gives them segments, they lack the kilometers because of the 25% earning ratio.

And who does this new 80k km requirement cull out? Likely only intra south america medium to long haul travellers. If you have 4 international NA/Europe Business class trips you close in to the 80k pretty fast. (15k times 4 = 60k).

Just from asking the front desk girls at Business Class check in at LIM.

Wouldn't the smart person just have a friend's address they could use in Colombia or Ecuador to skirt these high thresholds?

I'm guessing that might that cause some conflict if you have a LANPASS credit card...
