Trying to understand LanPass
A few LanPass questions:
1) Do the Classic, Plus, and Full categories apply to Oneworld partner flights too? If i call up LAN's Customer Service to check availability on an AA r/t flight from DFW-MIA-DFW, will i have to also ask for Classic, or is Classic the only option for Oneworld partners. 2)Is it possible to check oneworld partner availability with the LAN online tool, or is that tool only for LAN operated flights? 3) The LanPass terms and conditions say that they allow 1 stopover or 1 open jaw, on both national and international flights. Does this apply to oneworld partner flights too? Can i do an open jaw with an AA r/t flight booked with LAN miles? It seems the 1 stopover rule wouldn't apply to Oneworld partners b/c each connection or stop counts as a km redemption. Does that sound correct? |
Nope, completely different when you fly on a OW flight. Go here:
http://www.lan.com/lanpass/canjee_km...-es-pe.html#ow Depending on how far EACH LEG of your flight is, and which class you want to fly, you can see how many of your kilometers it will cost. There are various websites which will show you distances from one airport to another. |

This tool might not give you all of the possible choices. |
Don't Lan partner awards have to be booked as r/t? In that case, can u do an open jaw on a partner (return from a different city)?
and Do the Classic, Plus, & Full categories apply to oneworld partner awards? I'm aware of this chart for the partners, but it doesn't say if the classic/plus/full tiers apply too. |

No. You use the Classic/Plus/Flexible categories for LAN operated flights and you only use the parter award chart (with fixed amount of kms) for parter/OW segments.
Does AA availability on LANPass only show the same flights as Economy Saver AA availability equivalent (or is economy AAnytime dates ever available too on LAN)? |
Bumping this up as I'm trying to understand the inner workings of the LANPASS program, specifically for redeeming SPG points to LAN and then using those miles/kms to redeem on partners like AA. The value seems amazing.
Can I just search for award availability on ExpertFlyer and then call into LAN or something? The web site seems terrible at finding availability on AA. |
Just to confirm - is it NOT possible to book a O/W flight on LAN's OW partners? The trip has to be RT?

A LANpass OneWorld reward does not have to be R/T but does have to be at least 2 segments. e.g. you could not book MIA-LAX on AA, but you could book MIA-DFW-LAX on AA You can not book such a non return award on the website but you can via the call centre |

Crediting this answer to andreabc the expert in such matters.

In other words, if I fly two short segments, as long as the total is 500K, I only pay 6,000 LAN points - is that right? |

I called them last year to try to do a one way from MAD to LHR and applying the 2 segment rule, they could only offer me LA MAD-FRA followed by BA FRA-LHR. I vaguely recall them wanting 20,000kms for it. I think at the time I had 18,000kms in my lanpass account which would have been sufficient for MAD-LHR but wasn't enough for the lan 2 segment dog-leg |
OW awards are definitely calculated by adding the kms corresponding to the distance of each segment, not by using the kms corresponding to the sum of the distances.
It would be better for us if things were like you mentioned, but that's not the case. |
Peru domestic stopover?
Maybe I'm a little dense this morning (or most mornings) - but can anyone confirm that stopovers are allowed for a domestic (ie Peru) LANPASS award? Also, do you have to have the same routing on both legs of the r/t? For example, is this allowed for 16000 km?
LIM-CUZ(stop)-JUL(dest)-LIM Or stretching the routing quite a bit: LIM-IQT(stop)-CUZ(dest)-LIM Trying to get to IQT, CUZ and JUL with the fewest kms (spg transfer) required... |
Should be possible. There are flight options LIM-JUL with a stop at CUZ, but the website will be useless, you'll need to call. Here is the terms and conditions if you need to quote them:
11.2 The Awards allow one (1) Stopover (voluntary stop of the passenger on one of the Stops included in the outbound section or return of the trip) or one (1) OpenJaw (destination city other than the origin of the return flight,) on both domestic and international routes. 1.13 Stop Over: is a stop between the origin and destination, where a passenger can stay for a certain time, then continue the journey to their final destination on the same airline. 1.14 Open Jaw: flight for which the destination of the trip is different from the origin of the return segment (i.e. a trip from Santiago to New York, returning from Los Angeles to Santiago.) 1.15 Stop: a technical stop between the origin and destination points, at which a passenger must stay (usually on the plane or in the airport) for a short time and then continue on to their final destination. |
