securing exit row with first leg on ab

It seems that LAN only assigns exit rows upon check-in at airport, but I'm wondering if anyone knows how this works if the first leg of your trip is on a partner airline. I'm flying airberlin to FRA and then connecting on to MAD/SCL. I would really like to secure an exit row for the 17 hours I have to spend on the plane! Will Airberlin be able to assign me an exit row upon check-in at TXL or will I just have to hope there's something left when I arrive at FRA (1 hour 40 minute connection)? I'm Plat on AA btw.

Thanks!

Exit rows are only assigned at the airport from which the flight is departing.
