Mon Ami Gabi vs Eiffel Tower Restaurant
My wife and I are celebrating our 5th anniversary this weekend. We were engaged in Paris, so I wanted to take her to one of these two restaurants for dinner. I've not been to either one. Can anyone offer any feedback on either or both in terms of how they compare/contrast?
Thanks!! |
Eiffel Tower restaurant is more formal, more expensive, and more dinner-type food.
Mon Ami Gabi is cafe-style, better for people watching than romantic dinner with wife. I'd say for an anniversary dinner you'd probably be happier with the Eiffel tower restaurant. (Note that there are other fantastic dining options for your $, but the sentimental connection to Paris is probably important) |
I've been to both and think they are both great, but the Eiffel Tower restaurants is more formal and more of a dinner place as the previous poster said. My wife and I went there for our first anniversary for dinner and I can honestly say it was one of the best meals of my life. I thought it might be a bit gimmicky, but it was great--I've eaten at a ton the more high end restaurants in Vegas and I really think this one is underrated both for food and atmosphere.

As mentioned above, Eiffel Tower restaurant would be the better choice. Follow up with after dinner drinks at the Mix Bar in Mandalay Bay. Congratulations on your anniversary.

Petrossian bar, across the street inside the Bellagio, is a shorter walk ;) |

Or, the newly-opened-to-the-public Foundation Room, if you're trekking all the way down to Mandalay Bay.

I almost walked out of Mon Ami Gabi after being ignored by the waiter for 20 minutes (after having to wait 30 min for my reservation). Never again.

T well at least it's authentically French then  :D |
Definitely do the tower as its much better service and atmosphere. I believe the food comes from the same kitchen though. Reservations will be needed.

since this is FT, i feel required to point out that mon ami gabi has a frequent diner program. :D its actually fairly good. better rewards than gordon biersch although gordon biersch can be better for cashback.
have only been to one of the mon ami gabi parent company's restaurants - wildfire steakhouse. like the rat pack / supper club atmosphere. not impressed with food, but there are 2 standouts - the beef wellington, and the seasonal chocolate cream pie. i was probably lucky to find a great waitress at my location. |
Thank you all for your responses and suggestions. My wife and I ended up at the Eiffel Tower Restaurant and had a very enjoyable experience there. She liked the little table we had along the windows overlooking the Bellagio fountains, and we thought the service was just right (a nice balance between fun and casual vs stuffy and pretentious). The one thing I feared most was that the food wouldn't live up to the price, and that it would be more of a tourist trap than a good dining experience. Thankfully, I didn't find that to be the case.
For those of you who care, we had: Crispy Farmstead Artisanal Camembert, Almond Apricot Petite Salad 14.95 Eiffel Tower Summer Salad, Shaved Vegetables, Banyuls Vinaigrette 16.95 Filet of Sea Bass, Fingerlings, Double Smoked Bacon, Crispy Potato, Petit Mache 42.95 Individual Eiffel Tower Beef Wellington, Sautéed Snap Peas 54.95 Classic Potato Gratin 8.95 We also had (without the benefit of having these menus available to me now) some sort of pear martini for the wife, a caramel souffle, a chocolate hazelnut case, a small chocolate mousse (compliments of the house), some petit fours, and coffee. I think our total bill for the above, plus tax and grat, came to about $240. The highlight for me was the beef wellington. It's one of my favourite meals, and it's hard to find a restaurant that does them, let alone one that does them well. Mine, alone, was worth the price of admission. I was also impressed by my wife's sea bass. And, we both were surprised at the large size of the entree portions. In any case, I'd say we left very satisfied, a little over stuffed, and quite happy. |
Very nice TravelScholar ^. Congrats again on your anniversary.

Eiffel Tower is a Chef Jean Joho restaurant so it doesn't surprise me that you had an enjoyable experience. I've eaten a number of times at his 2 Chicago restaurants -- one formal, the other casual.
I haven't eaten at Eiffel Tower yet. Did you ask for window seating or just get lucky? |
